After running my car at the track last friday and running a 17.1 :barf: I was really frustrated. A guy there had one of them laser temperature meters and he metered my air filter at 110 degree's after the car sat after a hard run for 30 mins, OMG! So I redid my Intake Sytem and this is what I came up with. Now the air filter is never warm, its always cold :)

Regardless of gains, I bet that was a fun project. I'll be making a ram air headlight for my 2GNT here in the next couple weeks. If it turns out pretty good, maybe I'll make the other light the same sort of thing for a 4g63. :p Fun projects rule imo. :thumb: :talon:

I havent had but maybe 10 mins of driving time on it yet, I just finished it about an hour ago. I still need to disasemble the new PVC part and paint it to match. The whole system is made of 3" PVC Pipe, 3-3" PVC Elbows. ( the old system had the elbows cut to fit) The new Elbow just got some pipe stuck in it and glued in as extension peices. The filter's in a very tight spot, I had to remove that black box thingy that was hiding where the stock sidemount intercooler would be, but it fits. I also had to do alot of cutting in that fender area to let the pipe go through it all.

Parts Needed to copy me
3ft 3" PVC Pipe
Three 3" PVC Elbows (Cut 2 to fit properly)
Two 3" Rubber Couplers
One 3" to 2.5" reducer Coupler
PVC Primer and Glue
Clamps and Maybe some Electrical Tape
Nipple for Vent from Valve Cover and some JB Weld to Glue it into the Pipe

just make sure you get one of those AEM bypass valves. In case water gets up in htere.

other than that. bravo

Dude how did u connect ur MAS air sensor? did u extended the wiring harness?

As you can see in my old setup the can is no longer there surrounding the filter, I just cut it off leaving the lip where the hooks clamp it. So the sensor is still hooked up, I'll post more pics tomorrow. I didnt have to extend the harness it had enough of an extension to work. Right now everything is out and getting painted I'll post more pics without the wheel well splash gaurd for you guys tomorrow.

About this AEM Water Bypass Valve, does anyone think its needed?

Im going back to the track soon hoping for low 16's, but soon enough I'm gonna try and purchase a parts car from the junkyard to do a turbo conversion. :thumb:

What kind of air filter is that anyway, dosen't look like a K&N? I did this same thing to a 3rd gen prelude I used to have. I torched a hole out from the same spot (the battery was there but I ran it to the trunk) but I used an intake from an integra, I believe a 92-95 ls or something like that. It hasaround the same bends in it so it might be an experiment to see if it would fit ours. If it does we could have a real chrome CAI instead of the home depot one. Congrats on the creativity, I would have never even tried because I thought there was no room for the maf in there. :thumb:

Yup, always.

Im glad you did your research before adding that 3" piping.

Excuse the F### outta me? Whats your deal? The throttle body may be 2.5" yes, but the mas outlet is 3" so I see nothing wrong with 3" piping, you......

The air filter is made by Accel and its kool there Kool Blue Air Filter ;) Let me know if that intake your talking about will fit, even with a little modification that would be nice, chrome is so much better than painted PVC.

Thanks for the info, was it cheaper than a k&n and where did you get it? As for the integra intake, I have been doing some research and it will take some cutting and an extra coupler but it should work. So could a late model prelude CAI. I removed my silencer box yesterday and checked everything out under the hood and it looks like it should work, may have to relocate the battery though because there is very little clearence between the throttle body and battery tray. As soon as I get my hands on a filter that will fit my maf then I will test fit a modded integra or prelude CAI and let you all know if we have a new cool and useful mod or not. As for the 3" pvc IIRC the inner diameter of pvc is less anyway because the3" part is from the outside edges, so it is more like a 2.5" intake anyway. As for the intake I will be testing, I believe it is 2.5"-2.75" not too sure though. One more thing too, as for the wheel well splash guard, I highly recommend putting it back, if it gives you fitment issues just fabricate something. The last thing you want is to go over a puddle (even tiny ones) and have your tire flinging crap all over your air filter. Pretty much and road debri will be flung right at it so watch out.

I got the air filter right of ebay a few months back for $32 shipped new. PVC innder diam. is 3" the piping wall makes the pipes about 3.5", which is fricken huge piping in the engine bay. I do have my splash gaurd on, it was off just to show your guys how deep in there my air filter was. I was thinking about having a friend copy cat my intake outta 2.5" pipe and mendrel bends, but he wants to charge me like $75 OMG Ill leave it as is for a lil while.

Nice mod and great job. Yours looks a whole lot better than mind ever did. When my Talon was N/T that is exactly how I made mine. But I used a Plasma Cutter to make the hole bigger so the PVC will go thru. And I was suprised when I did mine that the wiring harness was about the perfect length. I noticed alot of gain with mine. I could hear the sucking 2x more than my old setup. And it would "Psss" everyt time I shifted. Then when I turbo'd my car..Of course that was 20x more power and I had a Turbo XS Type H BOV to make the real "Psss" :thumb:

Thanks, I guess I dont have to worry about rain, I was driving through the middle of town today and all of a sudden a downpore and my engine was fine, the filter is wet, but my engine didnt seem to mind at all. And and my friggen winshield wiper flew off and now my god damn windshield is all scratched to ####!!!!!!!!!!!1 DAMNIT

wtf...................ahahahahahahahahaha, sorry, i shouldn't of laughed at that, but wtf, it just flew off???

Yea the stupid plastic piece that connects the wiper itself to the wiper are broke off, shitty thing is Im broke at the moment and have to drive wiperless on that side for a while  Rain-x do me good OMG

Thanks to mike's idea of a cold air intake, he inspired me to do it to my car. Originally my car consisted of the piping for a ram intake off e-bay which i got back in feb. Along with a replacement for the airfilter and box bought from CosmoRacing for like $65 bux, but it looked amazing compared to the original stuff and it looked kick ass with the chrom look. Any way, so basically i went to Home Depot and piced up a foot of PVC along with a 45 degree bend and 2 couplers to hold the pipe and i extended my original metal piping and cut the shit out of the fender area to make it fit and i placed my airfilter down back into the wheel well area. It looks alot like Mike's but slightly different because of half of the metal piece. I have to take pictures of my car and i'll post a pic of the intake, tommorow i'm gonna paint it and then take pictures. Thanks again mike, and i def felt an improvement when driving. I can feel the RPM race higher with slight acceleration increase. :dsm: :thumb:

Now that you got all the bends right. Go to a muffler shop and have them custom make you the same intake out of 3" piping. They can make the same bends as the PVC.

:) Thats pretty! :thumb: I thought about having a metal piping one done by a friend, but metal heats up and is thin walled, the pvc just gets warm and I think PVC is better. Its alot thicker. I'm happy for now.

Yeah, very nice work on those dudes. They look great and I'm sure you IAT is way lower! To save time I went with the air box which also lowers temps but isn't CAI. Nice work and I need to get my DSM mo-Modded.. LOL

Here is a shot of My air box deal. This one was made for a Turbo model but it worked on my NT.

Those were my exact intensions that week, but the sheet metal i was using was so dang thick I had a hard time cutting it, with my cutoff wheel, then this idea popped in my head and i went with it. You know you can just add an extension like the guy above did to get the same effect :thumb:
