So this past season i set a new 1/8 mile record for myself: 8.8 @92mph, this was pretty much spinning all the way down the track on BFG gforce radials FWD. My 60ft was 2.3(ouch) and the very next run after this one i threw my differential pin through my bell housing (ouch!!) due to excessive wheel hop.
IMO this is a pretty weak time for my setup, as i am posotive my car would be in the high 12's - low 13's in the 1/4 track. I am a little confused to why my speed traps were so high, the fastest run that day was a drag camaro running a 7.6@94 (obviously geared). What exactly does it mean when your traps are so high but you spin all the way down the track

I wanna get some MT 26" slicks for next year, and im planning on going with a ground control setup. Do you think my 1/8 trap speeds will reflect a lower 1/4 time? this run was @18psi, the previous run was @26psi and i ran a low 9 because i never caught traction. Its difficult for me to find a launch point, either i roast em all the way down the track or I bog and wait for my turbo to spool..

im fwd on street tires i have that problem through first. i usualy run 2.3 or 2.4 60's and my best so far is 9.0 in the 1/8 mile. im a 420a on 8 psi but i still spin all the way through first even with 355's

High traps are due to power... slow e/t's are due to tractionROFL

Look at it like this. If you can get your car to HOOK, it'll be low 12s.

i run 7.7 @ 89-90 in the 1/8th mile... 12.07@113mph in the quarter. You will have 113+ traps and as low into the 12's as your tires will get you.

When my friend was having the same trouble with his GST, we actually turned the boost down to 12psi and he netted better times than when he was trying to push 17-18psi. This was mainly due to not roasting the tires down the track. On a FWD I found it's better to ease out of the hole than try to drive it like an AWD.

My car used to be FWD, all you need is stiffer suspension(for weight transfer) and some SLICKS. I cut 1.8-1.9 60's @ 5500rpm slipping it out of the hole. ALWAYS SET YOUR PRELOAD

2500 rpm on street tires worked good for me... I dont remember the 1/8 mile times, but I was cut a 2.0 60-ft, and run 13.4 @ 104...This was a small 16g. With a 2.5" exhaust, and a 190 pump.... That was it...Oh-yeah, and a turbo outlet elbow....ROFL

I put that same setup into an awd and ran 12.50's all day!! @ 107- 109 mph... Wish i had that car back!!

Doubt that helps you though....

Yeah slicks make all the difference in the world. I went from 2.4 60fts and was able to get a 1.860ft on a couple of my launches. IMO a fwd car with over 300whp without slicks is just a waste at the track without slicks.

It means you need to get some slicks and find a good consistant launch point. (Get a 2-step)

i was just gonna say it means that someone like evil eagle could probably pull a second off your time in your car, thats what it means to me at least,...

slicks are the lazy mans way to fix the problem, learning to launch well is much more important to get down first. If you come out to the track with slicks on all four and then pull a 2.0 or even a 1.8, people will laugh at you. Practice your launches as much as possible and get better at that before you drop cash on some expensive slicks

You need some slicks. A stiffer suspension would also help. I have avenger rear springs and tokico blues, with 26x10 slicks and i consistently cut high 1.7 60' times. 7.6 or 7.7 1/8 mile somewhere around 92-94mph and high 11's in the 1/4 around 117mph. I never see FWD cars do worth a damn at the track with drag radials. I am not saying its impossible but slicks just work better.

You do realize he's fwd and not awd right? Since you're talking about slicks on all 4's. I also notice you're awd so dunno how much experience you have launching at the track with a fwd but it's a bi***.

Anywho, I'd definately have to disagree with the above statement cause when I went to the track on street tires, I just rolled out easily and then as soon as I tried giving it gas, it was slipping everywhere and my times were pretty comparable to what a lot of other people's are that are trying to run on street radials. I just got some slicks and tried them out on the street. I didn't even heat them up but launched at about 5k. I spun a lil in 1st and then as soon as I hit 2nd that car just gripped and took off. I also didn't feel any of the torque steer issues either so it made it much easier to drive. Wanting to throw them back on and go at it again after heating the tires up 1st. Lazy man? Nah. Launching with slicks and street tires isn't even anywhere near the same so practicing would just be a waste of time.
