New 1G BOV leaking - Is it normal?

Hi everyone!

Before starting I apologize for any grammar mistake, I will do my best.

Here's the thing: My '95 2G Eclipse was running great, but someday I started hearing a whistling sound, at the same time the car's performance decreased (pedal response slower than normal when accelerating). So I said, OK it's a boost leak.

After getting a boost leak tester, I realized that my 2G plastic BOV couldn't hold more than a few PSI. So I bought a 1G BOV, but nothing changed, same whistling sound (louder than before when pressing the pedal) and poor response.

So today I tested again looking for leaks and now I can see the air is coming from the BOV (same when 2G BOV was installed).

I blocked the UICP before the throttle body elbow with a cap. With this configuration the BOV starts leaking at 3 or 4 PSI. If I block the BOV dump tube the pressure rises normally (but after 20 seconds the pressure drops to zero)

My boost gauge says I'm running 10 PSI at WOT.

The BOV is brand new, from extremepsi. So my question is... is it normal that my BOV leaks like this???

Thank you very much!

Fernando

If you don't let the pressure go through to the intake manifold then the vacuum line connected to the BOV isn't seeing any pressure and the mechanism that makes a BOV seal isn't working as you just removed it's pressure source. You need to hook the IC pipe back up to the throttle body.

After you test with a boost sorce report back with your results. I recently did a boost leak test and found my 1g bov leaks a little. I was wondering if it was normal. I cleaned the piston surfaces and still get some air leaking out. Put your palm over the dump tube and see if you feel pressure.

Yes, I can feel presure from BOV if I put the palm over the dump tube. Even with the pressure source at normal configuration.
