But always time to do it right a second time!!!

Well I finally picked up some manual trans. cam shafts and when I went to install them, I left out the 22mm crank pully bolt and just watched in amazement as my timing belt flew off making that signature metal to metal clanking noise :barf: Here I am almost 1 year after owning my Talon tearing into the engine again  So learn from my mistake(s) and take your time (DONT' BE IN A HURRY) when ever you are working on your DSM ;) !!!

Another view of the inside of my 4G63 (again)!!!

Which valves do you think are bent?

I was just kinda curious. If my memory serves me correctly you had a pretty decent Z. Do you still have it? I gave up on Z31's a lond time ago.

Man, I feel your pain - my Talon looks exactly the same man!!! :(

I originally bent a few valves in my head... Then I had the head entirely rebuilt - and installed with a brand new headgakset. Both surfaces were checked for straight, and not warped. Everything torque'd down properly. Head went on perfectly.

She's still smoking out of the tailpipe! I don't know whats going on. I'm going to pick up an entire motor tomorrow, and just drop that it. I have no clue whats wrong w/my motor. I mean if the head is all set, and the headgasket is all set - then it must be in the bottom end somewhere - right?

I feel for you man!!! :) Hey man, if your looking for a brand new rebuilt head - I have one with 10 miles on it. ;) I have the receipt for the entire rebuild dated 12/21/04.

Good luck bro!! :)

I just finished doing that two days ago, its such a love hate relationship, when the car works great you've got a shit eating grin on your face all day and when its broken you want to take it out back and shoot it

do it right or do it again :thumb: something that is so VERY true with cars :(

And I still have my Z:

I like both the Z31 & DSM, but there is so much more available for a DSM, makes it a lot easier to mod, but Z31.com has some of the best information of any board. Nice to see a former Z'er here too!!!

BTW, my Z made it into the 2005 Z31 Calendar (Month of March :D ) :

and into a deck of playing cards (Queen of hearts :barf: ):

I installed Total Seal piston rings when I went through the Talon (the first time), and had NO smoking problems what so ever. If your engine ever got hot, chances are that the rings have been cooked to the piston and the crankcase oil is going right into combustion chamber. I put the rings in the same time I was doing the balance shaft delete and it went very easily. Good luck to you too!

BTW, I just dropped off the head at the machine shop today (1-8-05) and should get it back by Tuesday (1-11-05). Thanks for the offer - How much are you asking for it?

Well the machine shop found 10 bent valves (all exhaust + 2 intake), along with 2 cracked valve guides. They charged $270.00 (including tax) for all ten valves, two guides, valve job, new head bolts. and a .020" head shim. So that was a pretty costly mistake on my part. Anyway, got everything back together last night and the car ran great. It makes a huge difference when you just take your time. Hopefully this Spring I can begin "modding" this DSM a little further (exhaust, injectors, & possible turbo). Let me know if you guys have any experience with head shims.
