Hi guys,

I have a Neon tranny swap done (by previous owner) for my '95 GS MT and now I'd like to install a short shifter.

Do I have to buy a Neon or an Eclipse short shifter? Or is it impossible to know without opening the shifter boot and looking at which shifter it has?

Also, good & cheap brand recommendations are appreciated, mostly I've watched from eBay since I'm not going to spend $200 on a short shifter for a N/T car...

You need the one for the Eclipse. The shifter doesn't get switched when doing a neon tranny swap, just the tranny. I like the Hurst short thow myself. Not quite as short of a throw as the B&M but it feels more solid. IMO...

Just buy and Ebay one, it should be a cheap B&M knock off... I got mine for 20.00 shipped and it feels better than the 80.00 dollar fidanza one that I got that broke.

Sorry, haven't checked this thread in a while. I think the neon tranny feels good. In a completely stock car the gear ratios are a bit too long imo, but when you do the basic mods it'll do fine, thanks to improved torque on low rpms. I got a really good mpg out of this car in freeway use, the car runs 85mph well below 3krpm on 5th gear STOCK.

Note: I haven't driven a car that has original tranny, so can't compare to that.

The neon transmission gears are a bit long.
But as long as you plan on going turbo it is totally worth it.
Because I'm still running n/a it seems a little slower, or like it just doesn't have enough guts to get it through the gears fast enough.
