If you can answer ANY of these... I was wanting to know a couple of things as i rebuild and construct this 1g complete engine in my 2g.
1) Is a topline oil pump ok to go with? most of my other stuff is OEM.
2) In regrads to water pump, oil pump, j-pipe and seals, i noticed in another build thread that the guy would always put a thin layer of RTV on both sides of the gasket before installing and even sprayed copper spray on both sides of his Cometic HG. I have a cometic, should i use this copper spray on some things? What do i use copper spray on and what do i use RTV on both sides? The RTV this guy was using was orange, but i have Ultra Grey RTV, as i have read to use for things on here. Please comment on what things to put RTV and copper spray on.
3) I read that for the head studs, that you just clean the surface and threads and dont oil OR MolyLube the threads that go into the block, just clean and bare. Is this right? What do i torque these to, before placing the heads over them?
4)I had a water/ oil cooler before and just went with the 1990 air cooled oil cooler. My 1g water pipe has a small pipe coming off to accomodate my old water/oil cooler set up? Is there a water pipe i can buy without that coolant outlet? I have a pic if you need one, to know what part im talking about.
5) My new engine is 9.0:1 compression. What will the difference be from my 8:5:1 engine? Will the engine be louder? What is any advantage of higher compression ratio?
6) I got this shortblock already built and just read about with having the balance shafts removed, it recommends to have the Oil Pressure housing ported to not have the oil pressure at 120 at 5k rpm. Or Porting some oil relief valve? Im putting the engine together tomorrow. What should i do? Do popular engine places that rebuild these shortblocks know to port the oil pressure housing etc? This is all new to me so please walk me through it.
7) What is the best way to clean the packed junk thats caked in my transmission bell housing? Brake cleaner?
8) I got a new fidanza replaceable flywheel surface, and im guessing just to torque the crap out of these things with Loctite red? I cant find a torque value for them. They are phillips head and there is 18 of them. I cant download the spec sheet from their website. I dont have the proper viewing software.
9) Before placing the head on, should I lube the inner head walls with oil, for its first start up?
Are these the right mods i should be doing before i install these heads?
