i think i may have damaged my center diff via stupidity. i used a jdm transfercase for aprox 6,000 miles. now theres a sound comming from the tranny or transfercase.....

Question: i can get a 97 gsx transmission for free buts its condition is not great. my car is a 95gsx can i use the center diff out of the 97 in the 95 ?

what can i use out of the 97gsx transmission?

Please need fast responses gotta pick it up today if im gonna get it

it makes a whineing noise while driving, like no fluid, yet it doesnt slip and still shifts fine.

can also make it produce an undesirable noise in netural clutch in or out when reving up the motor.

But at idol you would never know anything was wrong.. even at hi idol when its first starts it sounds perfect..

or moving the car slowly, dont hear a thing.

i know i damaged somthing because i was drivin up a steep grade one day and shifted herd a loud thunk over my stereo then is started whineing.

i dont know if i damaged the tranny or jdm transfercase .. but i need to know if i can use any parts out of the 97gsx tranny in my 95 tranny

if it makes the noise in neutral revving then u can rule out tcase cause it is not turning when u are not moving.

clutch in the tranny is not turning, sounds to me like your release bearing is on the way out.

If u decide to get the tranny, I would think the tranny would be a direct swap. I do know on the 1g cars that there are 3 different spline counts for the tcase imput shaft and tranny output shaft to tcase. 21 22 and 23 spline.

I don't know if this is the same on the 2g cars. just to be safe, it would not hurt to get the tcase with the tranny.

how ever I your symptoms sound like release bearing to me, regardless u are going to have to pull the tranny, so u mine aswell do that first and inspect the release bearing, if that is your problem it is alot cheaper than replacing the tranny.

i picked up the 97 awd tranny which was free and bought the transfer case that goes with it, but the tranny is in worse shape then i thought, the front differnetial was completly shattered exposing the bearings and evident damaged to the housing, also the case is cracked.

gears should be okay and hopefully the center differential is as well if i should need it. free parts are awalys good. are all the internals the same in a 97 awd tranny as in a 95 awd tranny?

and if the above is true why are the transferr cases different if the internals of the transmission are the same ?

are the internals interchangable between 95-96 and 97-99?
