So my 96 Talon TSi AWD has about 116k miles on it. Had a rebuild at about 100k and turned the crank, but when they had it apart at the dealer last week for an electrical problem (wouldn't start, thought it was crankwalk/sensor), they noticed it was in the very early stages of it and eventually would need a new block. Now I've read about getting a 1g motor, and I've read about replacing the bearing with ones to match the crank.

The tech at the dealer has been there about 15 years and seems to know what he's doin. He says just replacing the bearing won't fix the problem for long and eventually I WILL need a new block.

What are everyone's opinions of this? Has anyone caught crankwalk early and replaced the bearing and had many miles since then?? I love the car to pieces and there's so much done to it I'd hate to lose it! =(

We had a Huyandai in the shop a couple weeks ago that had crankwalk. Huyandai's solution was to replace the short block. Now since you are going to have to do the same, don't do like them and replace it with new junk... yadda yadda yadda..................
