Need some brain jogging advice

Hey all, i finally decided that i am going to take my 94 shell and put her back into the glory days:D. heres whats going on. It had a 4g63 n/a in her to start with but now i have ordered a 4g63t 6 bolt from jdm:rocks:. My question is can the old trany work with the turbo motor:rolleyes:? i got the ecm and the harness with the motor along with some other nice new pretty parts like the front mount and a new fluidyne radiator, and i picked up a 1g turbo gauge cluster. can you guys think of anything else that i am forgeting. thanks.
 
you should get an aftermarket boost gauge, the stock one is garbage for accurate readings.

Transmission:
Well now that we have your engine hopefully all accounted for and in order we need to move on to putting that power to the ground. There are a few different methods here and you are free to choose whichever you like.

1. retaining the 1g nt tranny - the 1g nt tranny can be retained in this fiasco in its exact form. you simply need to also utilize the 1g nt clutch and flywheel. 1g nt 4g63's came in 6 bolt and 7 bolt designs the same as the turbo cars did. since you hopefully chose a 6 bolt turbo engine having a 92 and up car can cause some problems with this. assuming your flywheels match up though, prepare to do some grinding. the turbo crankshaft has a locating pin on the end of it for the turbo flywheel, well as i'm sure you've noticed by now the nt flywheel doesn't have a little alignment hole for this. no big deal, simply grind the nubbin smooth (and make sure it is completely smooth since its the flywheel's mating surface to the crank and you wouldn't want a wobble there). i personally started by using a hard cutting disk on my dremel and then using a grinding stone to finish the job off. you will want to upgrade the stock nt clutch as it is totally uncapable of withstanding anywhere near 200hp. mine lasted a month of careful driving i believe. as far as buying nt clutches go, the choices are out there, but i personally don't have alot of experience with most of them (and am shopping for a replacement of the current one i have). most upgraded clutches should be able to contain the power available from a 14b but above that is apparently yet uncharted territory.

2. using a gst transmission - the gst transmission is a pretty simple install, although it can have its bugs. you'll need to make sure you have the flywheel, clutch, transmission, and rear aluminum cover from all the same year. of course you have to buy all of this so alot of people don't go this route. one of the nice things though is that alot of the mods companies like tre, bmtranny, and shepherd sell will work in this transmission as opposed to the nt in which they won't. the other nice thing is that this transmission has been proven to work at high power levels (although i don't see why the nt tranny would suddenly fail).

ECU and wiring harness: now we're into the most complex part of this all. the ecu/ wiring harness. there are again two ways of pulling this off, one cheap and labor intensive the other slightly more expensive but easier.

They are different transmissions; The 1g non-turbo trans (5 speed) is F5M22 and the turbo trans (5 speed) is F5M33. You can bolt the non-turbo transmission up to the turbo block but how long it will last depends on how much power you will be making. I would recommend using the turbo transmission (F5M33).

A "JDM" motor is the same damn thing as any other 6 bolt out there. It's cheaper to get a locat block.
 
Perhaps for an import brand like Honda. I hope that was sarcasm however as the DSM is a domestic.

Last time I checked Mitsubishi was a Japanese company. The jdm motor is the same except for the intake manifold which has a butterfly valve in it. Eagles are only halfbreeds as they still have a Mitsubishi motor and most of the parts are made in Japan.

THEY ARE THE SAME THING!!! Forget Mitsubishi or Eagle or Plymouth. They are all DSM's. Japanese parts assembled in Normal, Illinois (USA).
 
actually they are because usually they have wicked low mileage. LOL

LOL. Heck, I could clean up a beat to crap 6 bolt, make it look pretty and sell it for a premium...My point is, looks and price mean squat when there is no way to tell if an engine is "low mileage" before buying it.
 
Put it this way, I will trust that plate they give u with the motor 100x more than the word of a seller. If they say the JDM motor has 45k km, im thinking it has anywhere between 30 and 45k miles....that thing is just broken in! haha
 
Well good luck with your "JDM" motor as you have no control on what you are getting. The Cyclone intake only came on specific motors, injectors are slightly bigger depending on where the cotor came from. You would still need a way to tune.

The "JDM" 7 boot I had crank walked after a week of driving and it came from a mini van. The only better thing I received from that setup was the RVR intake manifold (EvoIII manifold). Rest is the same stuff or worse.

Just because Mitsubishi is the motor doesn't make the birthplace any different. All DSMs were built in Normal, Illinois and any that are over seas were exported there. There is one model that I know of that was European only and it was a 2g with a NT 4g63 motor. I believe it is a GSI and I just became aware of it recently on here.

Over all, building your own motor is 1000x more reliable, and it's cheaper over all.
 
Well good luck with your unknown motor and be ready to give it a rebuild. Hopefully you are getting a warranty on it as well.

Have you check the classifieds for a motor? It's not that hard to ship freight.
