Ok this is my situation and my dilema:

Picked up a bunch of stuff to do maintenance to the 95 talon I just picked up. What started out as being just a timing belt, balance shaft removal and headgasket has ended up being a lot more. After doing a leak down test I determined that the valves were leaking pretty bad.

So I'm ordering a stock 1g head from slowboyracing. This was something I was planning on doing eventually, I'm just doing it sooner than I thought. As it stands right now, the head is off my car and completely disassembled.

Now here is my question. I was thinking of replacing the piston rings while I had the head off and the oil pan dropped. Now I'm beginning to think I should pull the entire bottom end out so I can go over it and make sure everything is copacetic. The block is pretty dirty from where the exhaust manifold wasn't bolted up right and it's covered in sludge. I figure it wouldn't be too much work to pull the bottom end out as I have just about everything already disconnected (transfer case is disconnected and I would just need to really unbolt the block from the tranny).

So, should I:
1. Just leave it alone and pull the pistons and put on the new rings.
2. Pull it out, disassemble it, clean it, see if anything needs to be replaced
3. Just get a rebuild kit and rebuild the bottom end while I'm in.

I really would like a 6bolt but I dont' think I can afford it right now. As it stands I have some credit w/ sbr so I could pickup the rebuild kit for prolly $300 or so after I get my credit back.

I'm open to any suggestions, I don't want to do the job twice and since this is my daily driver I do need to do the job right while keeping expenses to a minimum.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I was planning on keeping the 2g head to work on it as money allowed and build it up, unless I got a really good offer on it.. heh
