hi there my name is ryan i live in trevor wisconsin prox 10 miles west of i94. i jus bought a 95 eclipse gst 5 spd. the guy told me it had a 1g turbo not sure on that. stock side mount intercooler. boost pod.air/fuel pod,. greddy turbo timer and boost controler. but only thing i dont like is that the blow off valve he said is vented into the atmosphere and not back into the intake. i have a lot of questions since im new to dsm's. i prevousily owned a 2000 mercury cougar v6auto. i was wondering why when i pulled the spark plugs to check them the 2nd cylinder from the left the plug was covered in oil:confused: the rest of the plugs were pretty white, maybe too lean???. engine sounds to run fine no real hesatation, shifts fine. also does any one live within my area that would possibly be able. to help me? ill up date in the daylight with pics of the motor and car. any imput will help thanks. ryan

do a compression test, but oil on a spark plug means oil on the top of your piston which means your piston ring isnt sealing properly which means not good, how much did you buy this car for?

hey, man I live twin lakes, which I think you know where that is from trevor, yeah, that oil on the spark plug means you either your piston rings are bad, or your valve guides are bad, but you said it doesn't hesitate or misfire, which doesn't make sense. but there's nothing weird going on when you drive?

yah im outta town for the weekend so when i get back i will do a compression test and boost test while im at it, the car has a 7bolt swap and i was thinkin of jus gettin a new motor from slowboyracing.com or whatever its call but i dont know yet. i bought it from a guy that lives close to me and was a member on here before he sold it . i paid 4900 for it. where at in twin lakes do you live i live on hwy c by "lakes all season and kiddie corner from the car wash. it also has a plam piolet with on-board diagnostic and got a code for IDLE CONTROL SENSOR MALFUNCTION soumething like that also

Rob that is my car he bought!!!!!!!! 2gnturbo, just so you know is has a 1g7 bolt swap with the evoIII 16G turbo upgrade........ Any problems let me know I can help you out...

You don't want to vent to the atmosphere unless you are running a GM MAF or someother fuel managment system. You car "Believes" a certain amount of air will be coming into the engine when you let off the gas or shift (The air comes from the pressurized air due from the Turbo) When you vent that air goes out from your car not in. So what happens is for a 1/2 second you run very very rich adn your car will Bog down.

Take a pic of your engine bay and post it up and it will be pretty easy to see what system you have. Depending on the intake on the car currently you may not be able to route the air back into the car. Some Dejon intakes do not have a connection for the intake. Most Injen pipes do.

In addition to running a compression test, pull the valve cover and replace the gasket and spark plug tube seals.

Keep us posted,

Andy

i did a compression test and got (L2R) 139-140-140-141. i took it for a drive and did some 3rd and 4th gear pulls and it drives good. when i pulled the spark plug out and there was oil on the valve cover so i think some oil got on the plug when i took it out the other day. but i was wondering could i put a stock 1g bov till i get a new greddy bov, since i have an upgrade turbo. :dsm:

Welcome to the community, 2gntrbo.. I hope the guy that sold you the car bought another one =)

You'll completely understand what 1g7bolt swap and venting to the atmosphere means in a few weeks =)

exile, that was my third car... my toy.... gone but it wouldn't work with the move we are going to be doing.... anyways 2gntrbo I have those other parts at the shop if you want to call me to make sure I am there and pick them up....... let me know, you got the number

A vented BOV is if you have no way of comtrolling it... Did you even read this post??

The compression test is a good idea as mentioned, but you can have oil leakdown from bad spark plug tube seals as well.

a 7 bolt swap doesnt make any sence...being as it came with a 7 bolt motor(7 bolts on flywheel, motor prone to crankwalk...search that for more info)
Yes I agree this swap makes absolutely no sense to do, why swap one 7 bolt out for another if youare doing a swap just swap in a 6-bolt, but crankwalk is over rated, its not as common as everyone wants to make evident, you can have crank bearings made to fit your specific crank, and be as confident of no CW as us 6-Bolt guys>>> http://www.roadraceengineering.com/walkingcrankshaft.htm, get another BOV and recirculate it. Defiant I think thats a little harsh now, he's a noob and just got into DSMs and got someone elses project. Tuners is supose to be friendly and helpful. Sorry for getting off topic. I doubt you are running lean do to venting to the atmosphere, this will cause you to run rich because your MAFS reads the air before the BOV, and the ECU adds fuel to be a good ratio to tat amount of air, but some is lost to too much fuel to air.
Oh yeah and listen to Andy he knows what he's talking about.

Dustin

thanks guys i apperciate it ill update you guy soon i was thinking about this bov due to a couple of my finds have run this on their cars.

I wanted a greddy type r bov. I just got an HKS SSQV knockoff because the design of the push/pull makes it almost certain there will be no leak, and I couldn't afford the Type R.

But if you are going for the type R, I hope you have short route piping where the bov flange is a bit lower, because the Type R is big and it will hit your hood if your ic piping is like stock location.
