so my temp gauge is acting up was workin but now seems to not be workin, my dad gave me a temp gauge to install but came out of a v8, the unit that goes in the housing is to big so we were thinkin bout grindin it down to the size of my stock one has ne done this or is a 4 cyclinder temp gauge different than a v8?

They all work off of resistance values but they don't all work on the same range of values so you can't just mix up sending units and gauges. The sender is a closed element thermosistor, that brass that you want to grind down is thin and you will ruin the sensor if you go through it. Your best bet is to check the connection on your 1 wire sensor and probe the appropriate pin at the ecu and fix the stock setup.
