Well to start off I'm not really new to the DSM world. I have a 98 GSX sitting in the yard right now that walked last year and it kinda got push to the side cause the same time it walked my son was born, family before car or atleast what my wife says.LOL But I'm getting a good bit back from taxes and needing help deciding on what motor to buy to replace this one. The budget for the motor is around 2000.00, plus alittle bit that I'm setting aside for Link and some other little parts and if I get a used motor there is money for the maintence to the motor.

I kinda want the warranty that can't be had with rebuilding a motor myself. But I do want to build a motor for the car later. I have another motor that I want to build while I have the car on the road and a motor in it with a warranty on it for a while. Just extra insurance. I have been looking at this ad on ebay. MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE 4G63 4G63T ENGINE Motor 2G 7 bolt : eBay Motors (item 150407299066 end time Jan-30-10 14:55:46 PST)

Maybe it's just me but that seems way to high.

There's no reason for you to spend so much on a basically stock 7 bolt when you could get a 6 bolt - and you could probably find one at least with some ARP hardware for that price..

I've seen those too, I don't think its a bad idea at all, I dont completely by into the whole "every 7-bolt is gonna walk theory" but the 6-bolts from them are a couple hundred bucks cheaper i believe. But I would have them put arp headstuds in, and maybe a few other choice "upgraded" pieces.
And you get your warranty.
I wouldnt think that you would need to build an engine for quite sometime though, which would take the fun out of it for me.

with that cash i would buy a junk motor, or rebuild one myself. if you dont trust your own mechanical abilities than however i can understand wanting to buy one with a warranty. but if you do it yourself right then thats no prob :)

For $2000 you could rebuild a 6bolt with nice bearings, pistons and rods.
Or you could pay some idiot to build you a stock motor for the same price.
Learn how to do it yourself, after almost $8000 on 2 ####ed motors I have learnd the hard way, NOBODY cares about YOUR car like you do. Even if you pay them. Warriny??? sorry you over heated,reved,boosted... not covered.. You say but I didn't.. they say prove it.

All kinds of good deals going on in the vendor announcements for engine internals. If you do decide to do it yourself I'm sure you could get hookedup.:D

2 grand .. go buy a CD and let the interest grow on it for you child's future and college education down the road.
Already doing that with the rest of the tax money. 2000 is only a little part. As for wanting to rebuilding a motor I'm not scared of it, actually got a few motors for different cars that I have rebuilt. I just like the idea of having the car running and driving while I'm building another motor plus everyone always knows as soon as you reach your goals you want more that why I want to motor thats already done. That way when I can done with building one that I have around and drop it in, then the one that came out will start another build for a different goal.

if the miles are all original I suppose it'd be a good deal

Is it a 6 bolt?

Does it come with everything?

You'd definitely want to replace the t-belt and other t-belt accessories either way if you get it. Not to mention other preventative maintenance.

Well I did some more shopping around and found one with a carfax report on the miles (41k) and same type warranty for about 200 less. Its just a direct drop in 7 bolt. I was planning on doing all the maintence (water pump, timing belt, and tune up stuff). I also will pull the pan and look over the bottom end plus pull the valve cover to check the head out before ever putting in. I have also found a 91 gs that the timng belt broke on, it does have the nonturbo 4g63, but I have to do some work to get it from the guy. I have plans on getting it after my car is running again and build the 6 bolt out of it to go in the GSX.
