Somewhere in BC,
Hey guys so I was cleaning my garage out and found these 510cc injectors that I have never used but came with the JDM version 4g63t engine I bought to replace my blown one I guess the mechanic put my injectors from the blown engine in so I'm guessing they are stock 440cc injectors are these yellow 510cc injectors usable and recommend for replacing the other stock ones I'm using, I got the evo I 16g turbo and I am thinking of running dsmlink in the very near future.

My question is do those yellow injectors look like they are in good shape to be used and if I do use them will they work with my ecu or do I need ecmlink to control them?

1. You should have them clean and flow tested before using them.
2. You'll need something to tune/correct with. It could be ECMLink or a SAFC, or play games with a MAF change and fuel pressure adjustments. If you already have a EPROM ECU there are other options for changing the ECU injector parameters as well like burning a chip or using an Ostrich EPROM emulator and Tunerpro.

For the little difference they will make on a DSM, you might just want to sell them on eBay and use the money for bigger ones.

How do I go about cleanning and flow testing them? sorry I'm new to this tunning I don't have an EEPROM ecu cause my car is a 97 but when I get ecmlink orderd this weekend I'll be doing the EEPROM conversion option I can really afford to get bigger injectors right now because I had to rebuild my turbo and purchase ecmlink so I'm hopping I can take advantage of these injectors for now,

You would have to take the injectors to a shop to have them cleaned and flow tested. I would not run those injectors untill you had link installed. Those yellow tops only offer 60 more cc then stock so with the evo 1 turbo which is a big16g i would only run a few pounds of boost more then stock. I would look to sell those injectors and get bigger ones to support that turbo better. Sell them to a honda guy. They love our stock injectors as they are perfect for most DIY turbos they run.

Your 510cc's won't fully support the B16G, 550cc's would be the minimun with a healthy fuel system (rewire mod at least) But if you have DSMlink, getting the biggest injector is probably the better idea since link can tune big injectors well enough, and you'll have room to grow for bigger turbo

But right now I can't afford to buy any injectors at all so do you think I should choose when ordering my ecmlink v3 to my stock 450cc injectors that are installed right now or get them to program these 510cc??

Test the injectors first and have them cleaned and you can program link to use the 510cc's just fine

Just can't run the boost to it's full potential but still better than using the 450cc's

Ok cool thanks what is the safest boost I can use on the stock motor and the 510cc injectors?

Can't say off hand but I believe you would tune for the injectors to be below 80% duty cycle (IDC)

Hopefully another member will chime in if I'm wrong there

Ok thanks I'm gonna be sooo lost when I get link im so new to this tunning and I don't have a wideband

Whoa! No wide band,? You NEED a wide band to see where your a/f ratios are. It's an essential tool that goes with tuning. You can't tune blindly. And the butt dyno doesn't work. Get a wide band before link and you'll be glad you did....just sayin.

I totally understand and I do want a wideband I just can not afford it it like November and by then the car will be parked do you think I can run dsmlink and just a base tune for the 510cc injectors and lil boost but not touch any other setting till I get a wideband?

Hey guys so heres a UPDATE

I finally caved in and bought a ECMlink v3 full version and also am doing the 2g EEPROM conversion for my 97 ecu , my question is I also bought the Innovate MTX-L Wideband Gauge Kit is that a good wideband??? and also i got theIngersoll-Rand 3-port Boost Control Solenoid not sure if i even needed to get it? But I got them all from the ECMlink website is that pretty much all I need? And what's your guys experience with ECMlink do you think those are everything needed?

Perfect thanks I'm hoping all this will be easy to install and tune do you think buy the boost selinoid was a must have??

No experience with the solenoid setup, but I believe it's to control boost more specifically during different times instead of relying on a manual based MBC setup. For instance, different boost levels during each gear. But don't let my hazy perception of it ruin the idea for you LOL make sure to peak around the site for questions on the solenoid controlled boost

Ok cool Iv got a lot of read to do haha can't you set one boost level at all times with link? Because I do not have a mbc

The boost solenoid is really nifty to have for things like boost by gear, but really with a 16G I wouldn't say it's a must have given the cost that goes with it. Although, I'm sure it's more stable than manual controller, since there are electronics that can "see" the boost coming and adjust boost control curves and such to tune out boost spikes and the like. If you want OCD level boost control it's a good buy.

Edit: And yes if you want you can set one static boost psi and leave it at that too :) As far as the wideband, yes it's a very good unit, hence that being the only wideband ECMTuning offers. Sure it requires calibration, but it's one of the most accurate and quickest responding units out there - I haven't seen a side by side comparison but there are many claims that it now outperforms AEM's UEGO setup.

Thanks for the info I can't wait to receive my dsmlink I got the full version plus the wideband they offer and that boost control solenoid I just hope everything will be easy to install and configure :)

My pleasure! It's not all that hard, since you have link wiring the wideband is a piece of cake, just use link's narrow band simulation, actually installing link is pretty much just plugging the chip into the socket on your ECU. Wiring the boost solenoid.. Couldn't tell you for sure but it more than likely ties in with the factory solenoid wiring.

Awesome thanks for the tips I forgot to mention when i install the wideband do I replace my stock front o2 sensor with the sensor that comes with my innovate MTX-L Wideband Gauge Kit?
