ok first this is a 97 gsx with a 16g turbo (new) External Wastegate (idk what brand or how big or anything) Nology spark plugs and a few gauges (boost, oil pressure, and engine temp). When i go to start it the engine will crank but it backfires alot and will never run. Every so often when its cranking it makes a horribly loud popping noise. The timing looked ok from both lining up the timing marks on TDC and from taking the valve cover off and actually watching it. The compression in all my cylinders is right around 150psi. I pulled the plugs and they are all getting spark but 1 and 4 are sparking at the same time and 2 and 3 are at the same. I dont know if that is normal because this is my first time working on these motors. I am out of ideas of what is wrong and I need some help...

the double spark is normal, its got dual coils not 4 coils, so itll fire two at a time. have you made sure your getting fuel?

ya when I pulled the plugs they smelled like gas and the little exhaust that comes out smells like its burning gas.

to much fuel then maybe is there aftermarket injectors or fuel pump it might be getting flooded with fuel and not starting

I am not sure because I bought the car from a guy i know. IT doesn't seem like that is the problem but I'm not going to rule it out. It will crank and just almost start but it backfire a lot and has that really loud pop every so often. I was thinking it was out of time but it all looks like its ok so now i'm thinking its some sort of computer problem or something. Also i noticed the intake manifold is getting hot and i didnt know if that was ok?

Verify that your ect sensor is working properly.

if it pops when it back fires make sure the spark plugs are in the right sequence and that the timeing is right

ok i was looking and i found some disconnected wires and I don't know what they are for

I also remembered I never plugged in my o2 sensor due to the fact I didn't know where to plug it in and im starting to think that these wires are the reason for that?

hey guys just thought i would give you an update. OK so it looks like I don't have a Crankshaft Position sensor which is also those cut wires in the picture so i have to buy one. I hope this fixes my problem. Ill let you know when i get it in and started.
