I did search the evo bov merged tread. I just scanned through there and noticed that most of those guys all had 2g's. I just wanted to make sure that this is just a bolt on. Sorry if this is a stupid question.

It won't be a bolt-on for you, as the 1g's use a flange-style BOV. The 2g's use a clamp-on style. You'll need to alter your piping for it to work, using a 2g UICP section.

If you've already got it, then it might be advisable for you to sell it and get something else that bolts on easily, i.e. Greddy.

If you haven't gotten it already, consider something else.

Evo IX stock blow off valves appear to have a flange on the base, but there's an adapter mounted to it with a hose connection similar to a stock 2G valve.

An Evo VIII valve is all plastic, and it's fitted for two hoses- one on the supply side and one on the vent.

Don't bother with the ev8 bov, get the evo9 bov. The evo9 is made of metal and pretty strong for stock or near stock setups.

My 6152e has completely f`d my 1g bov. At idle the thing is a giant boost leak. I found a great deal on an evo bov so i figured why not.

At idle it should be a giant boost leak. The evo bov will be too. Try doing an actual boost leak test, if it doesn't leak then it is fine. The issue is that at idle there is a vacuum signal to the bov which causes it to open slightly and this is the case with basically all push/pull bovs. The only bovs that will not be open at idle are pull type bovs.

Was it crushed? If not, try finding a good 1G bov and crush it or buy one crushed.

And that's why hks is hands down one of the best, if not, THE best, bov out there.
I had the HKS SSQV on my Evo 8 running 23psi and it leaked since the day I got it, it would start leaking bad after about 15psi. Put the Evo 9 bov on and problems were solved. HKS bov's aren't good IMO at all, maybe for a lower boost application. The BEST bov is Tial, probably always will be as well.

I don't agree that HKS bovs are the best out there hands down, they are pretty nice and I will likely move to one with my SD setup so that I cans switch between vented and recirculated intakes at will but IMO the whole open at idle doesn't matter one bit if you are recirculating and it actually is helpful to off-boost power because until the turbo spools it is nothing but a huge intake/exhaust restriction and the bov being open does a little bit to move air more quickly.

The hks also should usually be modified because its valve tends to leak under sustained boost which allows it to open slightly and start venting.

Came up with a quick fix for SSQV users - evolutionm.net

In my head I have two different images of the turboxs valve so I'm fairly certain that I couldn't tell you for sure but I don't think that the turboxs is a pull type valve.

Pull type valves are fairly easy to recognize because they tend to have the piston or valve perpendicular to the intercooler pipe. These are valves like the HKS, the synchronic (IIRC), and Mazda style bovs (Forge bovs can exchange their flanges so you can use almost any style valve that Forge makes on your car). I'm not sure what others are out there but I'm sure there are others.

Leaking hks bov's ? Never knew they leak, at least not from any 3 of my friend's who have been running them, all dsm owners, between 20-24 psi within them, and an srt4 who ran 25-28 psi spikes either.
Hmmm i wonder why people still buy them and they are the one of the most preferred aftermarket bov's still...
Sorry for the long reply but i don't see how you guys like to put hks down, i know i'm deff down with mine hopefully this month. I'd chose it over a tial anyday.
EDIT : Other than the 1g bov, which i highly dislike, and the hks that i love, the evo9 bov i have used and i can strongly argue it's probably the best bov i have ran so far to date when i had it.

had the 1st gen for a week crushed untill I got my FMIC system with a real BOV then sold it for 20 bucks.. its only for people that want to go cheap on their cars IMO.. how can anyone justify using something that they hit with a hammer is good for their cars? :aha:

I just got the HKS SSBOV V-3 too..
