Hi folks! Seems like that I don't have the access to the 420a n/t turbo conversion section, thats why I'm posting this here. This is my first post . Little story coming up...

I've a 4g63 NT 2G (all the n/s in Europe are mitsu engined) and I've been thinking about going with a turbo conversion this summer. So I started by calling the local authorities and asking about the laws involving this project. The Finnish law says that if I put a turbo into a n/t the maximum add in power can only be 20%, this isn't a big problem tho, but before the car is completely street legal I'll have to do this very expensive emission examination done. This emission check alone can cost nearly 4000 usd / 3000 euros.
But there's a solution. The emission check isn't necessary if the car is converted from GS to GS-T and I'm able to convince the authorities that I've done all the needed changes. The engine and the chassis has to be converted to be similar with the GS-T. Now this is a problem. I'm not able find any detailed documents about eclipse 4G63t engine internals and GS-T chassis and brakes. The document has to be about eclipses 4g63 turbo engine, comparison with engines from vr4 Galant or 4g63 EVO aren't accepted. The local mitsu car importer couldn't help since they haven't ever imported turbo dsm's to my country.

**UPDATE**
Now I "only" need this somekind of officialish paper that tells something about emission rate of a GS-T, injector size, and camshaft things. It can be a repairmanual of some sort. A document that shows GS-T (or nt turbo conversion ) passing California smog limit would also do the trick.

I tried to find email address of Californian vehicle department but they only seem to have phone numbers on their website:(

Well the chassis and suspension is the same. The tranny internals may be weaker in a n/t set up but I dont know. As far as the 4G63 to 4G63t engines. It will bolt right in and then you will need a gst ecu and wiring harness. This is all assuming that your engine sits in there with the accessory belts all on the right side of the engine bay while your standing in front of the car looking at it. If the engine bay is configured the same as a 420a Eclipse then it really wouldnt be worth all the headache to do the swap imo. If you can take pic of the car with the hood up that would help to determine how hard it would be. Also you say 20% hp increase. Isnt your car going to be somewhere arround 100Hp from the factory? The 2g 4g63t ENGINES ARE 220 HP FROM THE FACTORY.

Yeah I'm sure its a 4G63, but the problem isn't the installation. As I said already I lack the needed documents :). Even if I know the chassis is the same Ill have to prove it to the authorities who check my car. It will be 100 HP from the factory turbo if can't get a hold of the documents to do the GS -> GS-T car registery conversion. With the documents and changes the car will chance class from GS to GS-T in the car registery. If everything goes well and the car runs after the conversion theres no HP limit .

I have a 2g technical manual but it has nothing on the N/A 4g63 engine you have. Honestly I have never heard of the N/T having a 4g63 in it. Post your email and I'll send it to you.

crimson did you get my pm?
The manual should have detailed information about almost everything from injector size to camshaft timing, some kind of emission rates would be nice too ;)

LOL i would so just turn the boost way done when they measure the hp increase... then turn the boost up and spank GERMAN ENGINEERING

Ofc, but since im going with the GS-GS-T registery conversion to avoid the too expensive emission research thing. After registery change the hp increase is meaningless ;)

Well honestly I'm not quite not sure what the red tape in the end is wanting to see. I know that i'll have to show for sure: injector size, camshaft differences and timing and compression ratio as they are linked to the emissions. The repair manual that I got from crimsondragon will help with the chassis but it tells nothing about the injectors etc. The problem seems to be to get official documents. Some of those listed above I already know after searching forums, but I've a strong feeling that forum information is not enough. Every single piece of info will help my project:thumb: What does this "bore" mean, I'm not familiar with these terms in english ...

Thanks tenn-gsx! Yeah I could use that knowledge if someone has it on a paper. I thought it is same in n/t. I'll call the checking company today and verify things again. I might have everything I need if I find the injector size and camshaft things. They pretty much want to see the major differences that affect the emission rate. I'm sure they don't even have a clue what those small details are if I dont mention them.
Yesterday I got new information that I should have a "equivalence sertification" (translated if straight from finnish to english) that tells the stock HP and emissions. If I remember right the inspector mentioned something about california emissions or something. Lets hope this paperwork is worth it! These things can't be as hard where you live as they are here.....:tease::sosad:

WTF Im still trying to figure out what I just saw in that pic.. LOL

Heres some specs from a 1g with the N/T 4g63 maybe this will help altough im not sure if its a good comparison because yours is most likely the 7bolt version

Camshaft specifications

Camshaft journal Diameter 1.0217-1.0224 in
Cramshaft Bearing Clearance 0.0020-0.0035 in
Camshaft End Play 0.008 in

Valve Guide clearance

Stem to Guide Clearance Intake 0.0008-0.0019 in
Exhaust 0.0020-0.0033 in

The only info it gives for injectors is measuring Ohms for testing

To my knowledge the only differences in the US N/T and Turbo 4g63s are compression ratio camshafts and injector size along with ECU.
I would assume your motor has slightly higher compression than the turbo'd US version of the 7bolt

Spent almost 4 hours today calling every possible place from japan motor importers to car consulting companies asking for motor documents. I managed to find one consulting company that claimed that they could be able to find EU documents saying that Garrett T25conversion doesn't need emission tests since Nissan 200SX and some Skylines has it as their stock tbo. Not sure if this holds true with DSM's too , but worth of tryin :)

When I explained my plans to the emission official he was just listening and answering my questions, but when he realised I was talking about a DSM he suddenly got excited and promised to check things out for meLOL. Now he's tryin to find if California has ready approvals for 4g63 n/t turbo conversion with stock gs-t parts, or for other turbo kits that pass the emission limits. If gs-t passes the Californian emission limit they automatically pass them here too, so the emission document from california about gst would be critical.:)

now thats detailed rush2252, where did you find this info??? able to find it for 4g63 tbo aswell?

Found the info on alldata.com you have to be a member to subscribe but for $14.99 per vehicle its like having a hanes or chiltons manual.

As for info on the turbo'd yeh theres some ill have to see what I can dig up for some reason theres more info on some years than others I think the site designers got lazy wtf

As for the california emissions they are the strictest state in the US naturally. And Yeh there are probably several million GSTs ( hate to guess an exact ) along wih tons and tons of other highly modified smog legal cars. I think knowing that bit of info you should be good to go if you can get it on paper.

Any idea where to search or ask about this California emission paper, like popular website or some common officials? Not gonna stop trying....But seriously if someone from california could dig this document for me showing the n/t turbo conversion passing the emission limit there ill offer you a free ice cream next time you visit finland :D

Any ideas about the California thing, how/where/who to ask about the emissions?
