I have no idea what that sound is when you start it. I have the 420a engine in my eclipse and it had made a similar sound to that of yours when you rev it. Mine turned out to be the water pump going bad.

Huh, this is an odd sound.

If you cant figure it out Im in Waukesha. I might be able to come out and look.

It looks like either something vibrates and slams the mount onto metal. Like you have a bad mount. Or somethings seriously messed up in your clutch area. Like a chipped flywheel.

When they towed it they could have hooked onto the mount with the winch hooks and tore a motor mount.

I got some good news and bad news.

Good news: It don't sound like anything bad. Sounds like a bolt is lose or broken somewhere that is cause the engine to hit/vibrate against another piece of metal in the car when the engine gets more power it torques and moves more which is why its hitting only at higher rpms and startup of course makes the engine torque as well.

Bad news: I'm not an expert and could be wrong =)

How did they tow the car? flatbed I hope
they pulled it on a flatbed by the frame.

I forgot to ask, how did you break the wheel studs?

well when i got the car it have one broken and had been sitting over a yr and the brakes was shot. so i have to take the wheels off, i put pb blaster on it for one day and then tried to take them off so i broke one, left me with 3. so i had then yesterday and a pot hole or two later i had one. yes i know should have drove on 3 studs but i had to get to the doc.

question???
can i just knock then out and put new onesin, or do i have to get a new hub???

That intial bang on start up could be the starter.
Have had them issues quite a few times on various cars over the years.

Might want to make sure everthing in that are is bolted up correctly, the engine plate/starter plate is in place after the swap etc.

You can tap new ones in. If you've got that many to go it would be easier to buy a new hub. That depends on your personal time/money allowances though. If you decide to tap new ones in use a file to remove some of the rust that builds up inside the holes. Trust me it makes it a lot easier. Buy a couple extra lug nuts as you'll shred a couple trying to pull the new studs in. I think the vfaq has a pretty good write up on this and so do the shop manuals. Be advised the manuals make it sound easier than it is. It takes some effort to pull them in through my experiences. If you can't get the rotor of PM me I found a really good write up for removing stubborn rotors.

HTH

I have yet to shred a lug nut installing studs. Just just put a washer between the hub and nut and it will pull the stud right thru.

Just curious if the sound changes if you rev it with the clutch held down?
