What is this sound?!?!

You could see if it moves with the car off by hand but id pull the timing cover off and check things out.

I see you have your balance shafts removed. how long ago have you messed with the front of the engine.

Maybe it just the timing cover rubbing against the timing belt. does the belt looked scuffed on any sides?

Not to jump to conclusions.. but, that sounds almost exactly how my car sounded right when my trigger plate started hitting the crank sensor. I would pull that lower cover and take a look by turning it over by hand to see if the trigger plate is contacting. If it is.. well, its time for a rebuild/6 bolt swap.

The harmonic balancer isnt moving and doesnt wabble when the car runs, the timing belt is fine. So that leaves me to your answer which im going to be honest, I have no idea what any of that means LOL. So do I just take the tiny cover off the CAS and look around? Can i get some guides, since im not sure what too look for i can upload pics if someone can tell me where to go

BTW the car also has a big lack in power, which led me to think spun rod bearing but i've never dealt with any of this. DSMLINK says 160 hp and with my mods it should be closer to 220-230. I had randomly checked on of the bearings while going through the motor and it had normal wear on it so i wasnt too affraid. I have pics of that as well

Damn DSM turned me into a freakin mechanic

Check the crank for end play.

The damn-est thing I just put most of the motor back together and I checked for endplay and it seemed fine, well since this is a new problem guess its worth checking again. Wish me luck guys, i hope i dont have..... dont even want to say that horrid word

Just pop off the lower cover and turn the crank over by hand just to see if that trigger plate is actually hitting behind the crank timing sprocket.

My car was running perfectly fine until I did a standard timing belt job, and when I went to start it up after fixing timing. Bam. It walked.

Crank walk isn't something that just happens right then and there. It happens over time and gets worse and worse until the trigger plate damages the sensor. It it happened after you changed the timing belt than you bent the trigger plate.

I noticed when you revved the engine it seemed to go away?
How tight is your belt.

I would take the wheel off and wheel arch liner and have a good look around the harmonic balancer for cracks.

I would also remove as much of the timing belt cover as you can to see the timing belt. Even start the car up like that as well. May be you will see something. Its no good listening to where the sound is coming from as you can never tell.

Thats what I thought at first, but then replaced trigger plate with brand new one and it was still out of whack. Finally got around to checking end play and it was off. Not really a huge deal. My 7bolt lasted 124k miles with no problems before this, so I'm happy. Only reason I brought up my story as that sometimes things can happen out of nowhere.

Now theres a new sound...... It sounds like rod knock but it only happens at around 3k rpm

Rod knock? 4g63 - YouTube

Just updating as i see new thingg, but a guy wants to trade me a lifted v6 ranger for the car. should i do it?

This is what I am thinking.

To check this, you will have to take the harmonic balancer off, then the lower timing cover. That will be about ten 10mm bolts. Then you will see the crankshaft sprocket that the timing belt is drivin by, behind it will be a goldish colored flat piece. This is the trigger plate ^^^ he is refering to. It sounds to me that this piece is loose.

This happens by the big bolt that holds the crank sprocket in place coming loose. start there. If thats not the case get back to us..

Well you guys sorry for the late reply but uhhhhh, it wasn't the trigger plate. I test drove it after putting things together again and the motor seized.... Pics of damage will be up soon
