Ok, just picked up my GST (auto) last week and low and behold the T25 is shot, which doesn't suprise nor anger me as I got a good deal on the car. It has an Apexi full exhaust and power intake which are currently the only mods. In the very near future it will have a MBC and 1g BOV. These are the only mods I basically will have done to the car for quite some time as this is my daily transportation and I'm just trying to "wake her up" a little. Any advice on what to replace the crapped out turbo with would be greatly appreciated, I was thinking of trying to find a 14B (cost effective) or go with the 16G? You guys know better than me, help a newbie out :thumb:

Not going to be a race car LOL. This car is my daily driver, not sure where I read that about the 16G but at any rate I don't want to spend that kind of money on a turbo at this juncture. I have no aspirations of ever making this car much faster than stock, I wouldn't have even done the exhaust, it came on the car, the more modified you make it the shorter the lifespan of the car and this one has to get me through a couple years and not cost me a fortune to do so. My student loan repayments friggin kill me so I basically live paycheck to paycheck and am finally starting to get ahead so I don't want to get further behind, I have an R1 if I want to go ridiculously fast ;) that's where I get my speed fix LOL.

Hey with a turbo car you can make 500hp, and still get great gas milage!

...Just dont get on the gas to spool up boost. If you dont get on the gas pedal, then you wont burn much gas.

Also I keep an eye on my boost gauge. When I'm trying to conserve gas I make sure I dont go over 5lb boost. (although on the freeway thats tricky with the EVOIII, because it spools so quickly!)

Anyway.... think of it, and drive it like a regular old 4cylinder car.
Without the boost it won't have much power. It'll take extra time to excelerate up the on-ramp just like every other 4 cylnder ...until you release the power of boost!!! :thumb:

Sounds like you've got a solid picture of what you want to do.

The benefit of the T-25 or T-28 is being able to do a totally direct swap, which makes it cheaper and easier in the short term.

If you go with a 14b, 16g, etc... you will have to use an instal kit which adds a little time and money. If you add the 14b now, you will be properly set up to go bigger later on if and when you get bored with the power (you will). Until then, you have a cheap and reliable turbo that will hold 15psi to redline and love doing it the whole time. That should be enough to make you happy without pushing the motor or fuel system too hard.

Look into rewiring your fuel pump just to make sure everything runs nicely.

As stated above, larger injectors won't cause you to lose fuel economy. You tune them to the same levels as the stock injectors. They just allow you to run more boost without maxing out. If you ever do decide to go that way, you don't necessarily have to worry about terrible fuel economy just because you make lots of power. I've seen quite a few people running very large turbos getting great mileage due to late spool. Without boost, it's just another 2.0. :)

If the parts are installed right and are good quality. It wont hurt you car at all! It will help!

Most people dont know that because 80% of people do a poor job with their mods, and eventually the poor work catch up with the car.

.....think about this
Intake, and exhaust help your car breath, and fart.
If you can let your motor breath and fart easier, then it will work better. It will take stress off of the motor because it won't have to gasp for air, and squeeze hard to fart. When you open up those passage ways, you allow your engine to breath, and fart more freely :thumb:
You also get better gas mileage, because the motor gets to work easier for the same amount of power.

I would bet money that a person could take a 100% stock car... ONLY add a good intake, and exhaust, and gain 2-3 miles per gallon! ...AND you'll also gain HP for when you need to stomp the go pedal! ~~~Man you cant beat that!

I hear you on the budget thing. I had student loans a few years back too. I still would like to see a EVOIII go on your car. But If you HAVE TO go with whatever bolt on Turbo you can find for cheap.... DONT get a Ebay knock off, because it will go bad fast. I'd check out the classifieds on this site. look for someone who has a good rep.

good luck to ya!

i have a t25 in great shape, i just pulled it off my car to do a 16g swap. Heh... but ill let it go, pm me

I like the way you think :thumb: LOL. The 14B I'm buying is off the classifieds here and comes with the 2G install kit and was just rebuilt 10K ago. As for everyone freaking out about the Ebay link I posted, it wasn't for a junk Ebay turbo it was one of many rebuilt T25's or T28's I would never buy something that important that was a knock off. As for rewiring the fuel pump, everyone keeps talking about it but I'm in the dark what all does that entail?

Get the MHI Evo16g. It will get you over 300whp and is a great street turbo and FWD friendly if there is such a thing. You dont have the supporting mods to run a lot of boost but 10-12psi and you will be fine.

Hands down the EVO3

Its not the same as a big16, the internals are a bit different and flows alot more.

If anyone tells you different there wrong, talk to FP and they will tell you the same as I did.

Essentially it involves running heavier gauge wire back to your pump and adding a relay so that the original power wire becomes a signal wire and the new heavy gauge wire flows all the juice. The reason for this is that the original wiring drops voltage so that you're likely seeing 11.5-12 volts instead of 14 at the pump. I believe I've read that the stock pump flows about 100lph at 12 volts and more like 130lph at 14. A big difference. It will help you hold good fuel pressure as you turn the boost up.
