somebody please tell me whats going wrong with my car i mean i am getting frustrated here after my old t-25 took a crap i installed a 14b in its place and since then it doesn't wanna run right i just installed it earlier this week well here it goes.....my car seems to idle fine when i first start it up and it runs for a few mins then i go driving but down the street to the stop sign the car will begin to miss and throughout all this the car seems to not have very much power like my t-25 did. i can barely hear my blowoff valve also when i tried to launch it from a stop light it doesn't jump off kinda like it falls on its face then its gets going. there is also little to no pull when accelerating the t-25 pulled way harder than this 14b

someone please give me some ideas please
any help will be greatly appreciated

thanks in advance

i would also like to point out that my friend said when i was accelerating he said he saw a little bit of black smoke out the exhaust any ideas???

Before oldman beats me to it, go ahead and do your boostleak test, then report back. Also, where and when did you buy the 14b from? Did you check for side to side and in and out shaft play? How about the exhaust and compressor housing wheels, what kind of shape are they in?

After that, your next best bet would be to go through and check everything out and see if you got it all hooked back up right. My last 14b I put on wouldn't push boost at all for the first 20 miles or so I drove with it. I ended up getting ticked because I thought I bought a junk turbo, slammed it into second and put it to the floor and it started pushing boost.

I noticed you don't have a boost gauge listed. Do you have one? If not get one and hook it up and see what it's showing you. Never trust the stock boost gauge, it's only ECU based.

it had no play what so ever none in and out or side to side i never removed the o2 housing to inspect the exhaust wheel and i didn't do a boost leak test either. i just spent my last bit of money on a new set of plugs and wires

i think any of these could be the culprit: possible bad turbo, running rich=hesitation, black smoke, or maybe even timing, but i doubt timing cause u only switched a turbo.. so i would put my money on the turbo:coy:

well i was driving today and sometimes when i went to boost it felt like i hit the brakes but not too hard like in fuel cut kinda like it bogged out for a min like i just stopped accererating all together then i let off the gas and it was fine and i'm just curious how do i hook this gauge up tell me what i need

Boost leak test my friend had a 14b and many many boost leak tests later it was fixed. Where the j pipe bolts to the turbo can leak really bad we made a new gasket with the mr.gasket stuff and used rtv and that will seal it. Check the TB those leak in alot of places. Also of course every where there is a hose clamp, spray every thing with soapy water, you cant always hear a leak but you can see one.

Also use NGK bpr 7 or 8 es plugs, do not use platinum gapped at like .028. Car parts places sometimes dont have them so go to like a motor bike/atv/snowmobile store they usually have what you need.

We got his car running yesterday and at 12lbs with a fmic it spins the tires as soon as it hits full spool in 2nd gear till redline the spins well into 3rd, FWD. So the 14b is sweet.

could it be a vacumn leak because i notice when i let off the gas the little needle goes deep down to negative (vacumn) because before i put everything back in i redid the vacumn lines to the wastegate and the intake and the bcs i also wanted to know something on my t-25 there was a vacumn line fitting on the turbo. on this turbo it has a vacumn fitting on the j pipe. hmm is there still one on the 14b???

No, use the nipple on the j pipe for your pressure source for your mbc, or just jump a vacume line from the j pipe to the waste gate nipple and that should give you about 5 psi of boost. Plus eliminate your leaky mbc during the leak process.

i also wanted to point out when i hit the gas and let off i can hear the turbo woosh sound as its spooling down should i be able to hear that because i never heard it with my old t-25

Sounds normal, my bov will go off when I gas it at let off when I am still in vacume. I believe this is normal.

ok on the bcs i have the top nipple going to the intake and the bottom nipple going to the tee with the j pipe and waste gate is that right?

well i let the car idle for about 30 to 35 mins thinking maybe it does it when it heats up but it turns out the car can sit and idle for as long as i want it to with no missing its just after i drive it for a little bit idles fine while sitting but during driving will miss

by the way does it matter how you have the t fitting routing the vacume lines to the bcs,j pipe, and wg because i was wondering if it works a specific way or if it doesn't matter

i think i am going to pull the ngk plugs out that i just got 3 days ago and check the gap on them i thought they usually came pre gapped but i could be wrong ill gap them to .28 was also looking into a new fuel filter since i had the car about a year i have never replaced the fuel filter so i am going to try both of these things

spark plugs first

FIXED!!!!!!

IT was a nasty boost leak my ucip had a 3 inch crack in the rubber pipe. made a new section and put it on and man does she fly i retract my previous statement about the 14b it pulls way harder than the t-25 i wish to thank everyone who posted and those who helped me to solve this problem.

where would i be without you all

thanks again

definately i just wanted to kno what i need to hook up this boost gauge of mine its just the gauge looks like i'll need some fittings
