need help broke rear shock bolts

Ok hi guys. Ok this morning I was tring to get me rear shock off and broke the bolt clean off.

Just tring to find out the best and cheapest way to get the bolt out.

It is the very bottom bolt that goes into the spindle (I'm guessing). The top should be held in by studs/nuts. I have broken that bolt (due to rust) and ended up drilling. I didn't waste my time with an easy out or anything. Its not pretty, and its annoying, but try to get the center drilled out and work from there.

Well, huh. I think my guess was wrong. The bolt I'm refferring to is extremely easy to get to. Can you snap a pic of the bolt thats broke?

Yeah thats the bolt I thought you were talking about it. It isn't real hard to get a drill in there at about the same angle as the camera. You may try one of the smaller propane torches (you can pick up the little kit at Wal Mart) and just use the heat on the bolt itself. It doesn't look that bad, may be able to heat the **** out of it and run an easy out in it.

Propane isn't going to do anything to that bolt. I would spray it down with wd40 for a few days than weld a nut to the part sticking out. The combination of the lube on the threads and the high heat from welding a nut on the end should loosen it up.

Propane isn't neat hot enough to help with that at all. You are going to need to get it glowing to loosen it up at all. You will want to remove the stock from the arm before you add any heat. I reccomend finding someone with a welder and a torch to help you out.

I would get that shock off first and see what you have left to deal with.

If memory serves me right, there is a sleeve inside the rubber which the bolt was holding in... I don't know that removing the rubber will help you as much as drilling it out.

if your replacing the strut just pry it off if it wont budge cut the lower part of the circle mount off with a cutoff let it hang down and try to get the rubber off and back it out with vice grips... if you can heat it enough melt a wax crayon on it it will sometimes work its way into the threads and act as a penitrating oil

The bolt isn't held in by anything rubber. The only rubber is in the shock mount, in no way will burning the rubber from the shock mount help here.

You need to get it really hot and put a big vise grips or something that will grab whats left of the bolt and turn it out and hope the rest of it doesn't break either.

go to home depot get some map gas.. that stuff glows red.. don't breath in the gas, gives cancer.

Map gas burns like a few hundred degrees hotter than propane. It still isn't hot enough without oxygen.
