Need help ASAP with rebuilt engine

So just put together my engine, did a DOHC swap and got new engine harness with ECU off 94 Galant GS. The ECU has a knock sensor and it's pretty neat setup for a N/A car. I've had problems with the head - I had my buddy put it together for me while I was getting other things done, and of course thing went wrong. He installed 1g cams with 1g caps on the Hyundai head I'm currently using. So I had trouble turning the cams. I caught that and installed the original caps.

Now the cams have some free play when I get them for TDC, and they used to snap in place and not move at all. Is this a problem?

I line up the marks, do the t-belt and all, the compression checks out 190-200 across. I start the engine and it wont idle. It'd rev up if i have keep the TB open, but it wont idle. The AFRs are super rich (10.1), BISS adjusting doesnt help much. It pulls around 22hg of vacuum at the rpms when i keep it steady, but the AFRs are still in the 10s.

I'm running 450cc translated for the ECU set for 270, I ran the same settings when I was still SOHC, didnt change a thing about the fuel setup.

I dont know where to start from. I'll put the hyundai stock cams in tomorrow, Ill bleed the lifters again, I'll try another set of injectors and anything else that comes to my head.

I bet your VE changed with the new dohc, can you play with the tune at all?

i can turn the BASE knob of the MAFT and try to adjust which i did, and it would change the rpms but the AFR would still be in the 10s.

I cant say what rpms the car is running because the SOHC tachometer is different than the DOHC tachometer. I'll hook up the SAFC later on to monitor and to fine tune, but i use to be able to run just the MAFT setup up to 10 psi w/o a problem

I need some people to chime in for this one.

Engine starts right away it revs really smoothly, but as soon as I let off the gas it idles somewhat erratic and loops and surges alot. Vacuum is low at around -15 hg, and when sometimes it feels like the idle smooths out and It goes back to -22hg. Then it takes crap again and everything starts all over.
I blocked off all nipples on the IM and TB, new gaskets, it already had FIAV block off plate same thing. I dont know what to look for. Timing is dead on, checked and re-checked. Using Evo3 IM and the IM gasket was made out of metal, I put a few coats of copper spray on it

The other problem is the thermostat. The lower and upper radiator hoses are cold, the bottom portion of the t-stat is hot and the heater hoses are hot, car wants to overheat, fans dont kick on. Everything is brand new

If you used cam caps from a different head on your head, the cams are going to scrape metal off them, and trash your engine.

Overheating was fixed - it needed some more coolant...

Well it finally idles now. Its a little rough but it still sounds great!!!
