I just got a 91 talon tsi awd 5sp and the guy before me hacked all the wiring in the dash up and some of the ends are exposed at the connectors. The car will not stay charged and requires jumping every time to start. The ecu is some jdm POS and it is sitting on the floorboard.should I get an eprom ECU and a new dash harness and just rewire the whole thing? I know it is a PITA but it seems like the thing to do. I am going to look at my haynes book but does anyone know if the dash harness plugs into the main wiring harness or do I need the whole uncut engine harness? would that have the dash harness connected to it? I really need some help guys.... thanks in advance

The dash harness is separate from the harness that connects the ECU. If I bought that vehicle I would defiantly try to find a complete wiring harness along with the correct ECU for that year/model DSM. If I remember correctly, the engine harness is part of the ECU wiring. The only way to replace the harness that connects to the ECU is to find a complete engine wiring harness (usually can be found used for around $100). Below I have included a wiring diagram. Notice where the wires run that come from the "MPI Control Unit" (aka ECU). That is the harness that plugs into the ECU.
