need concrete answer about 2G MAF

I've done some searching and found answers on both sides, my question is can i just run a 2G MAF and be fine?

I've found answers saying it would be fine and others saying I would need bigger injectors and fuel management. I've also found a thread saying a guy ran a 2G MAF and 550s with no fuel management and was fine?


if so what size injectors should i get as well? I'm planning on getting a 16G sometime in the near future, but not planning over 17lbs of boost.

You should just get this setup. Run a gm maf. get a walhboro 255 lph pump, boost gauge and controller you can get injectors but don't need em. and get this gm maf and translator. 250 bucks for the maf set up but well worth it. You can run a 2g maf but you will be running lean and might cause engine damage. If you put in 550cc injectors they have been known to compensate for the extra air the 2g maf flows and you wont need a safc or dsmlink to adjust your fuel though it will help.
 
You might be fine, You might not be, There are no concrete answers for that. 550's and 2g maf are said to be the combo, Although as stated above, an AFC is usually needed. I actually ran a 2g maf and 550's with no tuning device for a month or so with fuel trims in the 110% range. I turned the screw in the bottom all the way in. Not too bad. Every maf is different, as is every car. You can rewire your fuel pump to get a little more out of the 450's and get a regulator to turn the pressure up a little, Just watch the idc's. I wouldnt recommend doing anything without a logger.
 
You CAN NOT just run a 2g maf and be FINE. Sure, it might be OK, for a day, week, even months. But eventually something with "let go" and you'll be upset. The concrete answer is NO. btw, please don't prove me wrong, LOL.
 
just save up for a tuning mechanism, trust me, for a while there I had all the boltons you could think of with an FP manifold, and 1000cc injectors sitting there because instead of buying dsmlink, I would spend the $200 this week on things as stupid as powdercoating parts or spark plates which werent even needed, finally saved up and im a happy camper ever since.
 
what would you suggest in the meantime though? because i have the 1G MAF but couldn't find any stock piping or get a deal on an aftermarket pipe, and then found a sweet deal on the 2G MAF and aftermarket hard piping, for right now i have the MAF clamped to a piece of radiator hose and the BOV vented so i could get it out of my buddy's garage, and i DO know that being vented without SD, or a GM MAF is bad. so what should i do?

or does anyone have a stock or aftermarket 1G turbo intake pipe?

I have a 1g stock turbo intake pipe.
 
I ran a 2G MAS with the stock 450's and no other fuel system mods with a Big 16G @ 15psi on my '92 TSi FWD for over a year; not a single problem. Car ran great- occasionally would stumble if you'd mash the throttle with the RPMs very low, but other than that you'd never notice a difference. I think the car actually ran cleaner than with the stock 1G MAS.

I logged every time I drove the car- never had any evidence of unusual knock that wasn't there with the 1G MAS.
 
so what your saying jusms141, is that i can run my car as is, due to my lack of funds until i can afford Link, or an SAFC or a GM maf and translator and be fine? it's going to be a few weeks until i can afford bigger injectors and tuning software, unless some one wants to trade for a load of non-turbo parts :wink: LOL
 
Your going to be fine. I'm doing the same thing. My 550s going to be here this week. Throwing my 2g maf in then boosting. I do have a 255hp rewired pump tho. All u really want tho is a logget. There dirt cheap 40-50 bucks for a kit.
 
logger is just palm or some device like that with a cable plugging into your car. And you can log whats going on via Software free on the net.

its like the dsmlink you see whats going on but CAN NOT change any settings. Im going to use it to see if im getting knock when raising boost and will give me an idea where I can stop or if I can raise more.

DSmlink is the best and the way to go but if your on a budget and what to know whats going on with your car. you get a logger kit roughly 50~. with a logger you can also go the cheap tuning and get a SAFC. SAFC controls settings but you need the logger also to check whats going on. SAFC is good til 660cc injecotrs if im correct.

SAFC + logger tuning+ logging = Cheap method and not as good as DSMlink
Logger = Check out whats going on without changing any thing.
DSMlink the ultimate machine :D
 
i'm hoping to get about 5 weeks of back money owed, so if i do, im going to get a new exhaust, Link, and some bigger injectors, but for the time being I should be fine.?
