I'm posting this because I can't post in this guys thread:http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=245580

Problem: If you swap injectors after getting DSMlink, then settings will be lost if the battery dies.

"With the current 2G offering these changes will, however, be lost if battery power to the ECU is lost. If you remove the battery or the battery dies, the ECU will revert to its set of predefined chip defaults you selected at the time of ordering. "

Above quote found here:http://dsmlink.com/faq.html

Example: I bought DSMlink and had the chip burned for 650s, later I upgrade to 850s. My battery dies in the middle of no-whereville and I don't have my laptop... now what?

I emailed DSMlink about this, here is their answer:

"If you have a 2G the changes would be lost and it will revert to the default
settings if the battery is disconnected. For the 2Gs we can burn you a
new chip when you upgrade your injectors. We charge $30 for a new chip
that includes Priority shipping. You wouldn't have to send in your ECU a
second time. We would send you a new chip that you'd install yourself
into the ECU.

This was more of an FYI... Just letting everyone know that you can buy the chip for $30 shipped and not have the problem.

Edit(x3): So the solution is: Buy the $30 chip and you won't have to reload the injector settings. Therefore you can make it home, get your laptop, and reload all the other settings without having to worry about your fuel being too much or too little.

Hint... the car will still be drivable with the 650's, even with the 550 chip.

That's a 15% difference, close enough to the ecu trim limits to make it a non issue.

As a data point, my car ran with 1600cc injectors on 950 settings. It was rich, but it would still run well enough to drive it home.

I'd be more concerned about a PFET or CAS failure than a dead battery.

WTF Wow... way to make a total :tease: of yourself. Maybe you missed the part where it was 850's and 650's... And that was an example. Learn to read. I am only letting people know what I learned a.k.a trying to contribute to the community. Also, "as a data point", running rich isn't good for your car. "Hint.." some of us are actually interested in maintaining our cars... :thumb:

Ouch!!

One of the first things to learn in the world is............"Know your enemy, who is he and what he does".

Hal is the main driving force behind why we have a PALM client for DSMLink in the first place. He's probably forgotten more than you and I know put together when it comes to DSMs.

He's definitely well aware that running rich is not the best thing for a car, however, he was also showing an example where the car is capable of "granny-ing" its way back to the house under the above mentioned situation if required to do so.

850s to 650s is a hell of a lot closer than the 1600s to 950s that he mentioned he was able to make it home with.

Make sure you know who your talking to before you "lip off".

Ok, so I miss read the injector sizes... big deal.

The car is still going to be drivable to the point where you can get it home. The sizes you quoted are 24%. That's outside of trim range, but not by all that much and if the car has an adjustable fpr you could dial DOWN the fuel pressure to reduce the delivery volume.

If you don't think I maintain my car, well... I would bet money it's better maintained than yours.

How am I a proven member... heh... you figure it out.

It's not even the fact that you misread anything, you were rude and all I was doing was letting people know what I knew. Not once did I say it was impossible to make it home. It is just onealternative. Why not make it a little easier? Your comment wasn't necessary. And you don't have a clue how well I maintain my car. Welcome back to second grade... "I bet I can run faster than you". Grow up. I'm still missing why you're a proven member.

I don't care who he is. I would respect him for the palm application in DSMlink (which I did, and still do) but he came out swinging, instead of just informing that it's still drivable. And once again, I said it was an example. I am not trying to turn this thread into a fight, simply trying to share information, his wording wasn't necessary.

Totally uncalled for and immature. You might want to reread his posts, they were not rude, or taking "swings" at you. He was just giving a useful alternative information.
Calm down..
Good information about the 30$ reburn though, didn't know they'd do that.

:toobad: you had to talk shit and ruin the thread tough guy.
You're just pissed because some of the guys let you know who he was, and you made a total ass of yourself whether or not you were trying to contribute to the community...

Why don't you try reading his thread again and apologize for being a dick.

Good info though.

I saw this thing at radioshack, Ishould have looked closer at it, but I don't have DSM link so I wasn't too interested... it's a little guy you just wire in anywhere on the system.. takes a 9volt battery.. whenever you disconnect your bat, you don't lose your time on your stereo.. and the ecu won't reset.. I imagine that would work perfectly you DSM link guys... it was ~$20

I've heard about those, they also have them at Autozone, napa, AA, etc..
The cigarette lighter style memory saver will not work on a 1g (and a galant vr4), as the cigarette lighter socket is not "live" until the key is on. I don't know if the 2g lighter socket is live, key off. [It isn't on 2Gs, either.]

In addition, just opening the door and triggering the dome light is enough to drop the voltage below the keep alive threshold on many vehicles, using the 9volt style...

I don't know if you were referring to the cigarette lighter type or not.. I haven't seen another type. But you could always wire it in, rather then using the cigarette plug(then you don't need to buy anything but a 9v connector for 1$, or cut one out of some non working alarm clock, haha.
Curious if the dome light would really drop the voltage low enough to kill it.
It doesn't really work in the scenario that your battery dies while your driving, draining the battery, also would drain that 9v battery (if you had it hooked up). And the 9v would have to be in before the battery died, otherwise. Mainly they're used when switching/removing the battery.

Maybe you're right... Except the part where I am pissed because of who he is, I honestly could care less (if he was insulting me). When he said "Hint..." I took that as a smart remark (I don't know why, maybe just the fact I have had a rough day), therefore the rest of what he said seemed to be mocking me/ trying to make me look stupid. Well, I guess I did that myself. I apologize. Hal, I am sorry that I took that offensively.

Sorry again,
Steve
