so i got a 92 eclipse gst for a project car, i have had alot of time on my hands lately and wanted to take this on since i got a good deal on it. the only problem with it is the machine work done on the original head, i have a new one that i need to swap everything into. im not familiar with this engine and a shop will be doing the head work but i was needing to know specifics on what ill have to replace gasket wise, and how hard you guys think it will be.

heres the car add before i bought it.

Okay, I'm just trying to sell or trade for something, I need it out of my shop to make room for the rwd projects.

1992 1gb Mitsubishi Eclipse GST

It is a 5spd with appr 115k on the chassis i think.

This car has a fairly new and nice dark green paintjob and a really nice gray/black complete interior with power windows and locks, and a sunroof.

Also has a fairly nice set of 5spoke wills with fairly good tires.

The drivetrain:

I can't find my list with everything but I'll try to list what i remember.

6 bolt
JE 8.5-1 pistons
Eagle rods
Balance shafts removed
MLS headgasket
Comp Cams aggressive street cams
Springs, valves, retainers-can't remember brand
Ported 2g manifold
New 14b turbo
JackM premium tranny with evo 3 5th gear (or evo5 3rd, can't remember)
XTD Stage 4 clutch and pressure plate
Lightweight flywheel
Cyclone Intake manifold
Complete Dejon Tool SMIC hard piping set in red
3in exhaust not complete after middle of car

The motor hasn't even been broke in yet, the head internals need to be swapped to a new head from bad machine work on the current one, i have a brand new bare head to do this

To be honest dude it is easy as hell. I bought my laser the valve seals were bad so i just said F it and got a new head, I didn't have a clue what i was doing just reading up and have a Haynes manual i managed to put everything together with no prob. And i again i have good memory where everything goes and to top t off i got a 2g head which made it different, but in the end car runs strong minus a WGA i need it is worth every bit of 1000 bucks.

i redid a 1990 eclipse its not to tuff you do will probly need a new intake gasket, exhaust gasket, head gasket, valve cover gasket and probly new o-ring for your cam senser

thanks guys, im located in Pocahontas Arkansas. i bought it off a guy who bought it from Mississippi, he didn't want to mess with it after he got it and it sounded like a good project so i got it. and im going to be replacing all the gaskets and seals, that come along in the process. ill be starting it in two weeks so ill keep yall updated with pics.

Okay so here is the deal, i got the head off the car today and to my surprise everything looks really good, that doesn't mean there is not something i cant see causing a problem though... OK so anyhow now, the guy i got it from bought the car from a guy in Mississippi, he is saying that guy told him there was a weird noise or something when he started it up and he got frustrated and sold the car, looking at the head it looks good...so if anyone may know this guy i don't want to give his full name but by the insurance in the glove box id say its Colby. i need to get a hold of a previous owner of this car so i can ask him myself, other than going off of "oh well i think he said it was the head" ha ha .There was also a post on here earlier from someone saying that they new the car, and now the post is gone, so if that person could pm me i would really appreciate it.

anyways her are some picks of it puled and a shot of the interior.

if i were you, id look in the oil to see if there are metal shavings in it, and if he said something was making noise, i would pull the oil pan down, and chect the main and rod bearings to be on the safe side

just checked the oil, don't know why i hadn't thought of that but anyways it looks good, nice and clear no shavings, ill try to pull the oil pan soon.

no, just about everything had been pulled out before i got the car, so i figured i would go ahead and pull the head seeing as how i was told it had bad machine work to it, I just thought that was the smart this to do, now i scratching my head....I think what I'm going to do next is put everything in the new head and put it all back together and see what happens :hmm:

What is everything? The valves are machined to the head. I would pull the valves out one at a time inspect them, check for cracks and put the thing back together.

by everything i meant all the wiring and bolts, exhaust manifold etc...pretty much everything you take off to take the head off, i am going to pull the valves and check them, but if i cant find anything wrong i don't know weather to go ahead and use the new head i have or not? I guess i wont know until i try to start it myself though, the thing has aggressive comp cams in it....maybe he just didn't know what he was hearing, as long as i don't hear metal on metal I'm taking it for a test drive.

sounds to me the guy didnt know these dsms and their standard ticks LOL i have a 90 eclipse gst that the top end was just re done and its got that little tick tick tick every now and then but thats normal or so im told - my buddys 90 talon tsi awd has the same tick- and he runs low tens on a quarter- so yea that might of been it. by the looks of that head pistons and valves- check your valves one at a time, then if needed re seat them, further clean where the gasket was on the blcok before you assemble anything =P if you dont it wont go back together right- as im sure you know. also my advice as far as the head gasket goes- if your looking to make power, use a STEEL gasket, yea they cost more but you will crack a wall before blowing the gasket- my buddy with the talon has 3 diff cracks in 3 diff cylinders now- but not a blown head gasket- go figue...good luck tho and if you paid less then 800 you got a steal!!!
