Need a site to lookup ecu part no and other questions

If anyone has a site to look up ecu part numbers i would appreciate it.

I have a eprom ecu that had a stage 3 tmo chip in it. I ran it in my 1990 talon tsi and it ran horribly under wot, sputtering no power etc but idles fine and drives under partial throttle. When i bought the ecu i was told that the chip was programmed for 550cc injectors and i am running stock so i had a socketed chip installed locally with stock injector size and some other programing to remove phantom knock but, it run the exact same way sputtering etc under wot..

So I want to find out if this ecu is for the wrong year or ca federal etc or just toast. If its working but not made for my car id like to sell it instead of toss it in the garbage. I seem to remember 90 being different from other 1g ecus..
 
The 1991-1994 ECUs will work perfectly in a 1990 if your swap the wires leading to pins# 6 and 14 on the ECU harness. The stock 1990 EPROM# is E743 and the 91-94 is E931,
though if you're running an aftermarket EPROM this won't help.

If you're not sure about yours, may want to try posting on DSM Chips forum as that is specific to Stock ECU /EPROM mods :dsm:
 
I keep a list that it more up to date than the one on the VFAQ site.

I don't know if DSM90AWD was just lucky but more people have tach problems using a 91+ ECU in a 90 car even with the required swap of pin 6 and 14 due to issues between the tach gate on the coil pack and the later ECU.

I'd actually changed all the ignition components on mine ala Mark Hamiliton's VFAQ (easier fix on Jeff Oberhotzer's VFAQ ) ;)
I figured a dead Tach would have been mentioned if the "workaround" was not already performed :coy:

Unfortunately, when you're dealing with used ECUs and pre-owned EPROMs there is no easy way for the "non-expert" to determine the extent of acid damage or what mods the prior EPROM owner had done to the chip. Injector compensation could be partially offset by a 2G MAS/ hacked 1G MAS compensation. Did you tell the person that made your new EPROM what MAS you were running?

I know you are just looking for answers on the ECU right now, but if you find it to be correct, may want to take a look for boost leaks as that would definitely cause your "missing under load" problem :dsm:
 
I have another ecu. Its a non eprom 90 turbo ecu and it works perfectly except for a phantom knock problem that ive had for almost 2 years now..... The eprom has stock everything except phatom knock programing that supposedly eleminates phantom knock. If you want to see all of the stuff ive done just look at my previous posts :( :dsm: :notgood:
