hey guys, i am going to buy a 96 eclipse gst from a guy that lives around 450 miles away from me. The car has 130,000 on it and the motor has about 3 miles on it. is it ok to drive it home or should i tow it? i did some research on it and some say that it is ok to take it on the high way when breaking in but dont stay at the same rpm and speed. also it has a dsmlink in it. should it be tuned before breaking it in? should i get a safc so i dont have to have a labtop sitting in my passenger seat the whole time? what do you guys think?

thanks
bryan

Driving on the highway should be ok. Just vary your speed put "some" load on the motor but not too much just try to give it some play time so the metal can seat down properly. As with the DSMlink make the guy your buying from tune it FIRST before you drive all over the planet with it not tuned..you wanna car right not some brainless, fuel guzzling beast right? Plus I dint think the motor would take too kind to a harsh surrounding like that either. Bring the notebook with you just in case if you have one of course. :thumb: Sam

well from reading around and using the search here on the forum, i have found out how to break in the motor using this website.

http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

so with that, wouldnt i be able to break it in up there and then just drive it home normally? also what kinds of plugs/wires do you guys recommed to use on it? also is it hard to time? i have a timing light here at the house that i can take with me but if it is going to take all day i will just tow the car home and do all the stuff here. i really dont want to mess the motor up and then have to go and buy a new one!

thanks
bryan
