:talon: first off i just wanted to say i am new to this forum. but not new to the forum idiea. so here is the deal. i got a 91 talon N/T but still got the 4g63 2.0 plateform. which i thought was good. until me and my buddie with a SOCH civic ran the qaurter and whooped me, at the track. i was pretty mad about that. but in about a year after all my suspention and body work is done i think i want to drop in a second gen turbo motor. well before i do anything like this i like to pack my mind with as much info as i can get into it about what i am about to do. so my first question is can it be done? second this is if it can what all is involved in it. keep in mind the 2g motor will prob. be a turbo. also wanted to drop in the 2g trans with it. will it bolt right up? and also with the stock internals but alot of head work cams, port polish, ext. bigger turbo FMIC SS turbo mani and bigger 780cc injectors and fuel pressure reg, bigger fuel pump what kind of performace can i get. i was thinkin i want to make about 380. is the parts i just said enough to get me there?? o yea without killing my rods? its just the next time i go to the track i want to kill my buddie who is building a 93 civic with a B16 in it. so i don't want to loose again. my last question. do you thing it would be easier to just keep my motor and just build it all up from the bottom up and just add the turbo and do all that head work and stuff?? im just trying to find out what is the easist way to make really nice power. and i think the motor swap is gona be my last option. and if you think keeping my motor is the better thing. what is invovled in making a N/T into a killer turbo motor? :thumb:

you would be much better off by converting to turbo first, using all the factory parts, then upgrading from there. that way you can get all the bugs worked out of it, and make it run right. after that then do your body work suspension mods. then upgrade the motor.

that is a very good idiea but the problem is, i just bought the car about 2 months ago. the guy who had it before me crashed it into a tree. he forgot to put the ebrake on. LOL. so right now the car doesn't have a front bumper and the hood is bent. so to even get it on the road i have to fix that first. and i am not putting on a body kit without lowering it. i hate the look of that. but goin back to your idiea, i was thinking if i was gona build my motor i was gona collect all the parts up and take out the motor/trans and build it up out of the car. all in one shot. clutch flywheel and re-build the trans is alot easier out of the car. ;) and then i was gona drop it in with all the new parts and then work out all the bugs from there. probably gona be alot of them to work out. but i guess what im trying to find out is if i make my N/T talon into a turbo what things do i need to get. i no i have to get the turbo exhaust mani, turbo, intercooler, but i don't really no after that. do i need a moded harness???? do i need a different intake mani/ fuel rail ext. just like a list of things i need to change my N/t into a turbo. one last thing what is the difference between the first gen and second gen 4G63 motors?

Well I think most people would say you should put in a 1G turbo motor, or turbo your current 1G, or buy a turbo 1G. The 2g turbo's have a little problem called crankwalk. :thumbdown Many 2g guys end up putting in a 6bolt 1G. Also, do ALOT of research before you spend any money. There are tons of websites out there with info on dsm's. Most of the questions your asking have been asked countless times before, here are some links with answers.

www.dsm.org

there is also another dsm website forum or two out there.

okay first of all donot put a body kit on your car. there isn't a body kit out there that fits these cars worth a damn, let alone looks good on it. to get a body kit properly fitted would cost you upwards of $1000, plus the cost of the kit. trust me i have worked in a quality body shop that has done paintjob's for cars that have been featured in the sema show, and numerous magazines. your best bet is to find a fwd turbo that has been assholed. from this you can get everything you need. Depending on how much money you have to spend on the car a n/t motor in good shape will hold up to as much hp as you can afford, IF it is tuned correctly. IF you want to have nice car that isn't blown up all the time then listen to me and make it so it is like a factory turbo car first. Learn how to work on it, get all te bugs worked out of it. then when you have a grasp for it start modding. a n/t in good shape with 10psi and an exhast will make good power (225hp). it will smoke a lightly modded turbo car easily. mine pulled 100mph traps with a slipping stock n/t clutch.

The conversion isn't hard but it isn't for your average "tuner" It takes someone who knows what going on. and just because you can put a short shifter and a cai on dosn't mean you know waht going on. I have been working on shit since i was old enough to hold a wrench, I have built a motor for this car, and i still don't feel that i know whats what.

I am not trying to be an asshole but, I am trying to help ya out. lots of people on this forum are very knowledgalbe on these cars, check the n/t to turbo conversion forum ask questions and listen to what they have to say.

good luck

First dont put a kit on the car. Just get the OEM body panels and hood it needs, a nice paint job, some clean rims and a slight drop. Bodykits on these cars = :barf:

As far as more power goes you should just get a Turbo 1G and start from there. If your really set on swapping with the one you have get a 6 Bolt 1G motor. The 1G motor is a better platform from the get go with better flowing heads, stronger rods, much more resistance to crankwalk, and a better intake mani. There are some other differences like lower compression but its up to arguement whether its for the better or worse.

Best advise is do some serious research and do it right the first time. Call up some shops that deal in DSMs and have them lay out a plan for the goals you have for the car. There is a tuning guide on the site and a few sites like the Vfaq that are very good tools for beginners or seasoned tuners.

ok ok i just wanted to start with thank you everbody for trying to help me out. this is the only problem tho. i like dsm's but the bad thing about them is that they are not RWD. which i think suchs. i love drifting but the only way to drift a FWD car is to pull the ebake :thumbdown not only is it not that fun but it is not the best thing for you car. all the cars i have had i never really wanted they just kinda fell into my hands. as this talon did. $200 you can't beat that for a perfictly running car with some potenal. but what im trying to say is why waste you money and time on something that i really don't want. i would much rather take a 240sx and drop in a sr20det motor. but alot of suspention work and make it into one cool drifter. but i have not decided yet if i want to do that. o yea i def can agree with you when you say that you need to know what your doin before you start any project. im gona tell you right now im only 16 but have re-build and modded many cars. i have completly build up a honda motor for drag use, for a friend of mine. the car ran 12's not to bad for a wimpy honda. ;) but i dunno i think i am just gona put my talon up for sale. 1200 OBO. and for my 92 Taurus SHO i want 2200 OBO as you can tell im trying to get 3000 for a 240sx! so this time when i get a car i am gona get something i want.

Good, sell it. Then you will realize after you drop a ton of money into that 240sx with the sr20det that you should have sold your n/t and your sho and gotten an AWD dsm :thumb:

step 1. fix the broke shit

step 2. read engine swap threads and tech articles like no tomorrow

step 3. buy a 1g motor. will be much better for swapping than a 2g.

step 4. do swap taking your time and following all rules and warnings from tech articles and threads.

step 5. whoopp honda ass by a couple seconds.

damn you guys. LOL maybe i shouldn't have said on a DSM forum that i am gona sell my DSM for a NISSAN. LOL. but i think that a front wheel drive car takes out half of the fun of driving. you all no that a RWD car is a hell of alot of fun. :thumb: and drifting is one of the most fun things ever. yea yea yea i no you guys are all about DSM's and what they can do. but i have alway been a fan of nissan's. but you never know. i just might keep the talon and make it a turbo. at the least the SHO is GONE!!!!!! then with 2000 in my hand, yup turbo on the way. that is if i keep the talon. question for you guys. should i build the head up before doin the turbo. see my plain was to take like 1000 and do new pistion rings, head gasket, then clean the head chemicly, then cams, vlvle springs, cam gear, ext. then put the other 1000 into a stock turbo set up and take all the kinks out of it from there. so like a good plain?????? o yea tomorrows my bday. HAPPY BDAY TO MYSELF. LOL :talon:

if you want a rwd car you need 3 donor cars to make one. you need a 4g64 wideblock motor from a mighty max pickup, a eclipse for the head and some parts, and a starion for the shell and the trans.

well you dont need 3 donor cars but that would be a insane setup/

that that would be a cool thing. but you would have to have alot of skill and time to do that. not to mention be one hell of a DSM fan to. that would be a cool project but def not one that i am tryin to get into. it would be cool to have someone try it tho
