Well first of all, before all of you yell at me for not searching, I did. I used many different key words too.

Anyway, just like the title says, are there any free mods for the N/T. I know there is a whole section dedicated to the free mods that can be done to the turbo models, and I was just wondering if there are any for the N/T.

Also, I saw that one of the free mods for the turbo DSMs is the EGR block off. Can you do this with the N/T? Or does it not make enough of a differance to be worth it?

BTW, I already know of the clutch free mod.

Thanx:dsm:

It doesn't make much of a difference to remove the EGR system from either car -- N/T or turbo. You can still do it to an N/T, though. Whether or not you call it "free" depends on how you do it.

You can index the spark plugs (standard procedure... instructions can be found anywhere).

You can remove the clutch fluid restrictor.

You can hack the stock airbox. Just drill large holes (1"-3") in the airbox BEFORE the filter. You can also pickup a short-ram intake on eBay for next to nothing.

You can gut the catalytic converter (illegal just about everywhere, but whether or not you get caught depends on your state's emissions laws).

You can replace the stock axle-back exhaust/muffler with that from a GS-T. You can usually find GS-T mufflers from 4G63 guys for very little.

You can delete all emissions equipment. Whether or not this mod provides any gains is debatable, but it will tidy up the engine bay.

You can rewire the fuel pump. It's not exactly free, but it's pretty cheap.

You can clean out the combustion chamber/intake manifold with Seafoam... also not "free," but pretty cheap.

That's about all I can think of. Before doing anything, get all of your basic maintenance done -- fluid changes/flushes, belt changes, etc..

Sure, lots of people have done it. I haven't personally done this mod, but I've seen the feedback from others who've done it.

Now the second question. Has anyone done this and can back up the gain from this mod??
I have completed this mod. It's a subtle difference, but noticeably quicker engagement. If you have 20 minutes to kill it is worth a shot. :thumb:

Advancing the timing a few degrees can make a difference you can feel.

Don't forget where you are posting. :) Ignition timing is unadjustable on 2gnt's.

Maybe he meant cam timing ;) ......with adjustable cam gear......a little more overlap? Let's see 4 degrees off the intake as I recollect. Oh, no wait, free mod? You're gonna have to get someone to GIVE you a adjustable gear.

And, oh yeah, did the clutch mod. Pretty simple, no time spent, mod. It just made my clutch "feel" better.

Interesting, I do believe I will try this out on my next day off.

Got some pic's of that stupid little restrictor, Was wondering if anyone had some explanaion of why they would enginer this, and isn't the pressure going to be higher through a smaller orfice so it should benifit? Not arguing it dosent help but whats the science behind this...

Smoother action.

edit: sorry, you wanted a more solid explanation.

The orifice creates a restriction in the line that the hydraulic fluid must pass through, because pressure will build on one side of it. Because hydraulic fluid is incompressible, it cannot pass through the orifice as fast as pressure is applied, thus requiring time. The longer it takes for the fluid it pass, the more smoothly the clutch will disengage. When the pressure plate tries to engage the clutch, it has to press the fluid backwards through orifice, which again, takes time, so engagement is smoother. Without the restrictor, the clutch will act more abruptly, clamping much more quickly. You can give the finger to Chrysler engineers and modulate the clutch the way you want.

Yeah, it works more or less by creating a buffer. The spring, in combination with the restrictor, absorbs energy from the working fluid exponentially -- thus, creating a smoother engagement.

Nice thanks guys, I got some other stuff i would like to get ahold of those engineers for.

but the witch, ya. shes dead. ding dong. LOL

I will let you guys know if i can tell the difference, when shes moblie.
