So I have a 92 Eclipse Auto FWD. I'm really confused with the torque converter lock up. It will go from 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th no problem. It used to drop RPMs on the freeway so i would be at around 2500 at 65 MPH. I also have 4 solenoids for my trans. The red one is in there which from my understanding is to lock up the converter but ive been reading it does not have a lock up converter. Now, at 65 MPH the RPMs have a lot of play on the gas at im at about 3300 and off the gas at around 2500.

Anyone know the answer to this??

Thanks,

-JC

1G automatics do not have lockup. A lockup transmission supposedly won't even fit in a 1G.

im trying to figure out what that red wired solenoid is suppose to do. The one in my car (not sure if its original or not) had a red wire solenoid, I got 2 other trans from a junkyard and they were identical with the red solenoid. I watched the video by John form IPT on the trans shift kit and that valve body didnt have that solenoid.

I also cannot find any information on the damper clutch control solenoid valve (DCCSV) which i read thats what it is, no clue on what it does.

The damper clutch is lockup. The 1g doesn't have it. It's inside the torque converter. The torque converters with lockup are bigger, and the bellhousing is deeper, making the trans longer, hence why it [supposedly] won't fit in a 1g. It will still have the wire and the solenoid, but the computer does nothing with it.

Okay, thanks for your reply :) . I still dont know why it was "locking up" before and not now after a trans swap  but I guess I have no telling what the original owner did with the car LOL.

Kind of a general question..why is there so little information on DCCSV? or the torque converter itself?

Because the torque converter is a sealed unit that does not get maintained. It's a part that isn't serviceable to normal people. It's welded shut. What makes you think it was locking up?

I noticed a problem when I got on the freeway it felt like it went through all the gears I think. I never have O/D off. And after about 10 miles of driving it would act like it shifted again and now I had no "play" in the RPMs vs where my throttle is. That transmission died, wouldnt move one day at a stop light and so I swapped the trans and now freeway driving is very different.

Not sure if that makes sense but its the best I can describe it. I can take a video to show what I mean.
