I am wondering if anyone ever gets a nice loud ping when going into reverse? It happens just at first when starting to move and only once. I tried to hunt down the problem today and it sounds like it's comming from the middle of the car. I checked the carrier bearing and it is smooth. I currently have a DSS aluminum driveshaft and the clearance from the exhaust seems fine. My only discovery was a torn most forward bushing on the rearend. I put the car up on jack stands and the ping does not happen when the car is up in the air. Is there anything I shold be checking that I'm not?
Thanks,
Dave

If youre not talking about then physical noise of it going into reverse your motor mounts are shot and this is just the load on the engine hitting on the exhaust. Most likely. Thats what happened to me anyways.

It doesnt happen in the air because the wheels arent touching to load down the engine.

It's a very noticable ping like hitting a golf ball off of a road sign and def not a snick of the tranny. I have prothane motormounts, however I noticed some carbon on my flex section and it is starting to get sloppy/leak. I'm sure it's nothing because it sounds so hollow it can't be coming from a diff or transfer case. I'll check the fluid in both just to be sure.

Most likely one of the drive shaft U joints are bad (most common for my experience) or ive had my rear breaks hang just a bit after putting my ebrake on overnight. the sound was them popping free and it wouldnt do it again till the next morning usually.

I 2nd that! My buddy's ford ranger does this, and I was actually able to lie down under the truck while he backed it up. I could hear loud and clear that his u-joints are bad.
