My Wheel Fell Off

ok so im driving home after i get my car back from putting on my new turbo and everything and the car starts shaking and pull over and tighten all my lugs ### i was thinkin myb my wheels lose
so i go like mybe a mile down the road and i hear click click and then the car just drops and i slid like a good 70ft on my rotor and the wheel went flying off into idk were but yeah
so i call the insurance company and thier saying thier giong to total the car????
the only thing that is visable is my fender is jacked up and so is my sideskirt but it doesnt seem like thiers and other damage
ive put another tire on the car and drove it home the were i crashed it and the only thing that seemed wrong was my alingne ment but idk
heres a pic what do u guys think could of happened to say they think thier going to total the car????? i dont get it

So you didn't snap any lugs? I don't know why they'd total the car. Usually they get it looked at by a mechanic. The mechanic then gives a quote to fix it. If the quote is higher than the value of the car, the car is "totaled".

Give the insurance company a call and see why they want to total it.

Why did you even call the insurance company if all you need is an alignment and a new fender? You must have a low deductible...

thats rediculous. that shouldnt be considered totaled because it is still driveable. I would go back an look for that wheel if I were you. It couldnt just diappear. how fast were you going?

His probably thinking it will need various suspension component to repair...

These car do not blue book very high anymore and can easily be totaled because of this...

I was probly going about 40mph adn came around a slight turn
and i didnt snap any lugs i plan on looking at my rotor today since i slid
on it but yeah i looked upder the car alreadt and thier didnt look to be any damage besides the fender and sideskirt
The insurance company said because of the year they wanted to total it but thats rediculoius i think its a 98 and its like brand new ive babie everything about the car
idk its frustrating but yeah
wheel hunting later when i can get a ride

well i got my mom to go to autozone and buyme some lugs
while i sat at the car wait for a tow..
the tow truck came and used this thing to just lift the car in the
air high enough to put a jack under it and jack it up high enough to get my spare tire on

If they total the car do what someone else said and buy it back. If you decide to let them have the car take some stuff off and sell it =)

yeah thats what iwanted to do but i was planing on selling the car soon
and the insurance company isnt goin to give me as much as i can get for the car
they just give me the blue book n thats around like 6grand
i wanted to put some money down an an evo soon but if i buy it backa nd fix it myself wont the title be salvage

Wow. The same thing happened to me about 1yr and a 1/2 ago! It doesnt sound like the same thing happened to you but my wheel fell off while I was going about 25 and the lug nuts were still on the studs on the rotors! Someone swapped the factory lugs for some aftermarket ones that had too small an outside diameter and the wheel slowly worked itself out around the lug nuts. Man I was mad. Same damage as yours too, the wheel hit the fender and a small peice of the sideskirt. Thats really odd they want to total your car though.

Was there any over reacting on the phone to maybe hope they would give you a little bit bigger chunk of change? Deer ran out in front of me and I rolled a 97 chevy z71 and done 11 thousand in damage and they fixed it no questions ask. With no increase in my insurance
