My spedometer only goes to 20 and my odometer is messed up. I pulled out gauges.

I have heard of people getting no speedometer and no odometer, but i am getting some...My spedometer goes up to 20mph and then stops and my odometer tries to flip numbers but is flenching and not turning them. I took off the front plastic to the cluster to feel the needle for catching. Its very smooth. Next, i wiggled the spedometer cable coming out the transmission and it seems like the bolt is in there just fine and the wire is snug. I did just do a 6 bolt swap and all this stuff was recently pulled and reinstalled, and hasnt worked since, but theres only one way for that spedometer cable to pop in and one bolt that tightens it. What should i do next? Buy a whole new spedometer piece that goes into the tranny? Thanks

My guess, is that you should pull it, and see if there's gunk/shavings on it. Then my next guess is to swap it out with another one?

It sounds like the speed sensor gear is either stripped or you have a short at the connector.

The odometer wont work if the speedo isnt responding so the issue of the speedo and the odometer are one probelm. When you remove the speed sensor make sure not to drop the plastic gear down into the tranny!
