My solution for the FIAV

And learn that CCW means the arrow goes in the opposite direction?

Hahah...didn't proof read it too well. Didn't know I was getting graded. But the general idea is there, if you guys care more about spelling, I'll delete the post and just put a nice properly spelled, and punctuated random sentence there. :boring:

Well, UPDATE:

I installed this FIAV plate yesterday before my back went out and crippled me until i get back to the doctor on Friday ( or sooner if it don't let up) and i must say GREAT RESULTS

1st off... the freeze plug in my original FIAV assembly was GONE..no where to be found ( go figure) and by putting open the new one with the modded and rebuilt TB, the car idles awesome, starts and warms great!

On a side note.. a found a really cheap and effective way to rebuild a TB shaft seals!

After taking the metal rings/seals out i gutted the rubber from them with a pick and screwdriver..then i noticed injector o-rings fit almost perfect.. i lubed them up, put them in and placed the metal ring over them. The TB hasn't sealed this good since it was new (just another alternative for those wanting to make do with what they have :) )

The only problem I've encountered is that i tightened the TB shaft nuts too tight and the throttle is slow to close on it's own, but a quick loosening and re loc-tite on the spring/actuator side solved that with 1/4 turn of the wrench :)

PM if you have questions about this

not to mention getting rid of the FIAV and it's coolant lines cleaned things up a LOT.. i will get pics when i can walk to the car again.. i just had to call a neighbor to put me in a jeep and take me to the store for milk... god i regret that accident SOOO SOO baddly..let this be a lesson to you young guys that are "indestructible" it catches up with you in your 30's to start...then gets worse and then you're like me in the hospital once a month to get handfuls of pain killers that you wish you could quit but can't without risking a surgery that might make your legs stop working for good :(

I screwed in the valve all the way on my '90 TB (has no freeze plug) and now it leaks antifreeze like hell down there, I guess I need a freeze plug?

Hmm... Interesting.

My car idle's at 2200RPM when its cold, well.. anywhere from 2000-2400. Its a pain in the butt. Im using AEM EMS, and no idle stepper motor. Once its 'warm' the car idle's fine... 1000rpm.

I have no coolant running to my stock TB, and its unmodified. Maybe I should do this free mod, and than I will always have my 1000rpm idle and just use the idle screw for adjustment. I don't drive the car when its cold out, and if I have to keep on the throttle a bit until its fully warm thats fine too.

Or disconnect the coolant lines from the throttle body :)

I know this is an old thread but I'm going through the same things. I have installed a block off plate but I don't like having to manually keep the revs up until the car warms up.

So I figure I can adjust the FIAV and rather than installing and uninstalling it a million times. Why not just heat up some water in a large pan on the stove and drop the whole valve in. Then adjust the FIAV until the valve is fully closed at around 160 or so degrees? Anyone know the specs?

I'll play around with it today and see what I come up with.

Thanks for the idea guys! I was looking for new FIAV valves.

I turned my FIAV all the way shut, or open...not sure which one it is but its twisted all the way 'down'. Blocked off it's coolant passages and its airflow passage, with a working ISC and BISS adjustment over a few days...it can be 0 degrees out, car starts at idles perfectly without any interaction from me (even from a cold start).

Thats odd mine must be stuck. It just acts like I have a block off plate installed. So I'm planning on taking it apart and cleaning it out.

Well just a little update popped the freeze plug out finally. My adjustable tension screw was seized pretty badly. Practically destroyed the thing trying to get it to move. Anyway it appears that mine was just stuck closed. I removed the adjustable screw and cleaned it out really well with carb cleaner and shop air. Then held it under hot tap water. (our tap is extremely hot scalding to the touch but not quite boiling) If you let the water trickle in from the mating surface above the spring you can clearly see a stream coming out the thermo valve hole. I just got it nice and hot and adjusted it so it was fully closed when hot. Then ran cold water through and it opened. Cycled hot and cold a few times. Seems to be opening and closing as it should now.

Just waiting 24 hours for the rtv to dry before trying it out.

***************update***************************************

It was 10* out this morning. About 34 in my garage.

Clutch in, no throttle. Initial startup rpms jump to 2000. Hover here for about 20 seconds then drops to 1400. As the car warmed up, rpms slowly lowered to my chips base idle of 850 where PDA confirms the ISC takes over.

Then I shut the car off and let is sit 5 mins. Started it back up no throttle idle jumped up to 1000 the settled at 850.

Couldn't be happier works just as it should. We'll see how long it takes to start acting up again.

Sounds exactly like how mine acts!

Ok, how about us 90' guys? there isn't a way to do the fiav bypass. what's to be done about this?
