When looking for gauges for my 95 Talon Tsi I was looking for 2 things. A quality gauge that doesn’t cost a bundle. So where do you go when you would like to save a little money…EBAY! So I searched the hundreds of boost gauges available. Most look to be really cheesy gauges focusing more on what color you can choose over how your car is running. I stumbled across this guy…

I will say I have no affiliation with this seller at all…I personally find his prices amazing which is why I bought from him.

He carries SPI gauges which from what I could gather used to be pretty amazing gauges but are not made anymore. SPI(Sharp Precision Instruments, Inc. http://www.spipowerexcel.com). Now they strictly distribute Apexi, Defi, GReddy and many top brands. He also has Sparco springs for our cars which I didn’t know sparco made!

So I ordered a boost gauge, oil pressure gauge, and water temp gauge. I emailed him first and he cut me a deal on shipping. I got all the gauges shipped for $72.00. As far as I could tell this is about the cheapest you will find brand new gauges online for.

My first look at the gauges left me worried. They were very VERY light and I almost thought they were cheap and would break on me. This was not the case. The only issue that I found was the fact that the oil pressure and water temp gauges were too long to properly fit in the triple gauge A-pillar I purchased. Basically I had to rig it to work. No biggie though we have all been there. Install was a snap and everything lit up just fine. Numbers are back lit so they aren’t too bright which is exactly what I wanted. I can’t stand that much light in my field of vision.

So…Pro’s and Con’s

PRO- Very cheap, quality pieces, ability to change the color with small bulb sleeves
CON- backlit lighting not very bright(more of a personal preference), some custom fab has to be done to fit in a-pillar mount, a few extra wiring pieces need to be purchased

Anyone wanting to get quality gauges and not spend a bundle should definately consider these! Just my Humble Opinion! Thanks for listening! :thumb:

i too have an SPI gauge. I am very pleased with it, though the color is kind of ghey if you ask me. But like you said they are easy to change. So ill probably do that. Cheep gauges too, im looking to pick up Oil Press. and EGT gauge here soon actually. So they too get a :thumb: from me.

thanks for the lead on the low priced boost guages. i'm looking for just that for my next project. i didn't see an SPI EGT though... darnit. keep looking i guess.

as for the springs...

List= $200+

his price: $36.99

something seems a little fishy there.

what did you have to do to make them fit and what a-pillar are you using?
