i just got a 1990 eagle talon awd tsi. it has voodoo cams and a stage 2 clutch. here is what im wondering. if i get a k&n filter. fmic and piping. larger downpipe and 3 inch exhaust what should i do with my fuel/ecu source. should i get a piggyback. i really want to keep it to the basics but do not want any idle surge or boost creep and i want it to be reliable. i have always had hondas and the engines are very forgiving so i got kind of spoiled. thanks guys for any help i really apreciate it:hellyeah:

With the SAFC you will need a logger also which puts your roughly around $300 for a bit more I would get a used dsmlink or see if you have an eeprom ecu, I would also get a wideband. It all depends on your future goals with the car.

ummmm....ok thanks for your input but i believe the 97 gsx out back has something to say about that

LOL ok crackhead... please don't destroy 2 perfectly fine DSMs for some hair-brained teenage pipe-dream. If you want a 2g DSM then just build the 97 you already have:toobad:

^+1 On that. Your asking about basic bolt on's and do it yourself parts, which means this is obviously your first time touching a dsm. If you didnt say anything about you being a previous honda driver, anybody could have guest anyway by the list of mods your looking to get. And maybe if you did some research, you wouldn't have to post something like this. There is more information than you'll ever need on this site. I am gonna make a few suggestions. If you want to do a "Motor Swap" (you dont swap 1g and 2g Bodys) to a 2g with a 20 year motor that was probably beaten on by 6 or 7 people before you, the i think an air filter, FMIC and exhaust is far beyond what you should be thinking about right now. Don't be a hack, do it right. Get your exhaust, forget about the FMIC if your running a 14b, Get some hard piping if you want, and replace your air filter which is probably already K&N btw, because thats proper maintenance anyway. That should be the first thing on your list. MAINTENANCE! New Fluids, New Filters, New plugs and wires, New Timing belt, New Water pump, new accessory belts. Start that way man. Ok i am done.

Yeah whatever I am in the process of my 1GB body swap right now LOL.Maybe he meant 1GB?????I dont really see a 1g turning into a 2g?But hey I guess if you take a 1g 6bolt and put it in a 2g shell thats considered a body swap??????I'm kinda lost here......

i am putting the 6 bolt into the 97. sorry i was not clear. my 1990 talon is rusted to hell. my 97 is a shell. therefor i am not destroying anything. sorry if you thought i was actually going to put 2g parts on a 1g body. the engine was rebuilt 1500 miles ago. and its funny that you think its stupid to post this considering this is a new dsm owner forum area right???

"and its funny that you think its stupid to post this considering this is a new dsm owner forum area right??? "

Just a heads up, if you post anything that sounds a little off the wall then you will get ragged on most likely. And i think the 2gen body swap did just that for you.

If you are new and seriously asking questions people will help you more than you need. But if someone gives off the impression that they are clueless and start talking out their ass then they get toasted pretty quick.

Also search like crazy, the info is there. people hate when a question is asked and no searching was done.

But it helps that you explained the body swap thing.

Anyways, do all the maintenance first. These cars are not forgiving like hondas.

He has a freshly rebuilt engine, that covers about 85-90% of maintenance to be done.

Take a good look at ECMlink commonly known as DSMlink instead of that Neo setup you are thinking about purchasing.

Please god before you start throwing performance parts on it, make sure it is running 100% i mean compression leakdown testing, boost leak testing, throttle cable 100% tests, etc. Your first mods should be monitoring tools to let you know what is going on in your engine. Aka wideband, oil pressure, etc

Very well then, it's a 6 bolt swap not a 'body swap'. We reacted that way because seriously we've seen all kinds of insanely stupid people in this forum.

In any case you shouldn't be asking about mods for a 1g if you're building a 2g since you will be using a 2g ECU, MAF and fuel system.

Also as far as I know, lunati doesn't make cams for the 4g63, so where did you come up with voodoo cams?

I was curious of this my self, never heard of voodoo cams for a 4g63, anyways price wise dude I would highly advise to wait and not get a safc neo, look either into a cheap used safc 2 for 100 or less, and a data logger, because if your going to spend 300 you might as well buy a used laptop and dsmlink, the out come in the long run is way better with dsmlink, trust me I bought a brand spanking new safc2 for I believe it was 300 back in the day, spent 100 on a data logger setup and while my car was in the shop the safc2 broke (believe the heat friend the circuit board), if I had dsmlink I would have just swapped out laptops.

Do yourself a favor and pull the ECU out. Check the caps and make sure you see no fluid leaking out of them, and make sure you don't smell anything fishy.

Check to see if there is an EEPROM chip. It will be a 28-pin (I think) rectangular chip on the bottom right corner of the ECU (with the harness facing up). It may have a code on it that says E###. If you have this chip, it is an eeprom ECU (many 1990 talons are EEPROM). This will allow you to get DSMlink without having to buy a new ECU, and is your best tuning option. :thumb:

as said above. Ditch the Neo/logger idea and just spend the little extra money for the ECMlink. You get a great proven product with an amazing amount of support..

:rolleyes:Also you will not end up having to sell the neo and logger later to buy a ECMlink when you find out you want more and the AFC cant doit it for you:thumb:

i was told thre were voodoo cams in there but ya i did not know they made voodoo cams for 4g63 either, thought they were just for more american cars??:confused:thanks guys for all your help and even the wise ass cracks i know i was kinda asking for it! cheers

ya they do make voodoo cams for the 4g63. check oriley's. and the only reason i ask about the motor swap is because i was just wondering if i get new motor mounts will my 6 bolt drop in with my 1g wiring harness. like i said and you made fun of me above i am moving from honda's. hondas are easy like that. i meant no disrespect to anyone but i have been looking all over the place and there are so many people with sketchy answers. is it true that i need to add 7 bolt parts to my 6 bolt engine as i have been hearing...it is compression tested and leak down tested and is strong
