ok, basically im saving for my first car, I have $2800 Canadian saved up right now

and im looking to purchase a non turbo 1992 eagle talon

i've been reading around and I noticed almost every one is having to replace costly parts, and the such


1. can I prevent this break downs?

2. if yes, how?

3. when looking to purchase the car, what are some things I can look at to be sure it wont be problematic from the start

well lets see look for oil leaks and oil pressure.hard to start.rough ideal.make sure it shifts good.look for smoke when u first start it.check for water leaks and water temp.check for front end sounds like poping sounds.check brakes.look under hood real good and make sure nothing has been rigged up.

Check the cv boots, check for clicking noises, check for idle surge (not that it matters b/c most of us have it), pull the spark plugs, listen for metal on metal sounds, ask about timing belt/etc maintenance

those seem like slightly high prices for NTs..kelly blue book value for that 92 NT in EXCELENT condition with moderate mileage is only worth about 1600 USD[around 2000 CAD]

You could probably find a 1st gen TSi for around your 2800CAD price range..if you don't want a TSi then you could try talking those NT sellers down to around KBB value
