I was on I-95 heading from philly to NJ and 10min into the trip my car jus bucks and i hear popping noise. I started braking and pulled over on the shoulder and the engine shut off. I thought my alternator belt broke or something. I look underneath the car and the oil pan is leaking oil all over the ground and my recirculation hose for my intake is popped off with steam coming out. My coolant resivour is giving off steam but the car was not overheating. The oil dipstick was like bent up as well. I just gave it an oil change about 2 weeks ago. I have changed the alternator, alternator belt, power steering belt, t-belt, waterpump, crank pulley, and gave it a tune up 2 months ago. I tried to start the car after that and it wouldnt even crank. I don't know what happened to car. It was driving fine before. Also if i let the car idle too long it would blow white smoke but it didn't smell like coolant so i figured i was just burning oil and i didn't have a blown headgasket. I didn't do a compression test. Any ideas on what it could be? Maybe just a rock hit the oil pan and let all the oil out?

It is a 90 N/T with 160k on it.

I would try a compression test first. See what is going on in there. Also, did the coolant have oil in it or vice versa. If so, chances are the headgasket is having trouble. The white smoke is also a good indication of hg. But if you lost all the oil there may be a good chance that something overheated and broke internally. Do the compression, post the results, and people will probably be able to help more.
Good Luck

thanks.. i'll take a trip to pepboys and buy a compression gauge. I am starting to think whether it's worth it to fix this N/T... i might just start saving for a gs-t engine and trannie or a 1g gsx.
