Ok, I fonally got my engine. I pulled the valve cover and it looked beautiful, smelled fine, and ZERO burn marks on the uderside of the VC. I am checking compression as soon as I can get a tester thingy (anyone know how much they are?). Here's the engine:

ooook, so, question one: It came with this throttle body. I am assuming I cannot use it doesn't have 4 outputs for emissions, only one. Is this correct?

On the turbo, it says TD04, on RRE's site it says its the 13g from an auto car, did I get a little screwed over here?

They sent me the ECU along with the engine. I know I can't use it, but is it worth trying to sell? I opened it up to see if if looked like a US spec one, perhaps with eprom, but nope... waaay different.

On the intake manifold it says ECI Multi (not Cyclone) TURBO INTERCOOLER. I have no seen this, all the ones I remember seeing say Cyclone. I already have a 1G manifold to slap on it, but why doesn't it say Cyclone?

I can't answer all your questions here but I will do what I can.

For the turbo please take a pic of the turbine wheel for us. That might help but no guarantees.

The TB looks alot like a normal us ig. Also the intake looks the same.

The testers are like 15 bucks or so from any auto parts store.

If this engine is supposedly out of a car in japan why does it say "tuned by amg"? Can't say I know much about their market there...just wondering.

Don't the 1g auto cars have the TCU integrated into the ECU?
 
I've heard the "Tuned By AMG" spark plug covers are very rare and I saw one about three weeks ago sell for about $100 on ebay, but it was brand new.

this TB only has one nipple. I thought the US spec ones had 4. My buddie's 93 GSX has 4.

Depends on year. That looka a whole lot like my 90. Kinda hard to tell with the pic though.

Does it have the extra set of runners? If it does then it is a cyclone intake reguardless of the writing on it.
 
90's still have 4 vaccuum ports on the TB, there just located differently than the 91's and up. The 90's have 2 on the top and 2 on the side of the TB. 91 and up, all 4 are on the top. That looks like a cyclone motor to me. The intake manifold should be dual runner also. They did make them without the "cyclone" on the intake manifold. You may have gotten one from automatic tho. Pretty sure that turbo is a 13g :talon:
 
You definately have a 13G, being the only TDO4 turbo you'll see on a DSM. That of course means it came out of an ATX car, and the ATX's have the TCU in the ECU (as crankbender suggested it might). The lack of nipples on the throttle body isn't much of an issue, you can always use T's on other lines to hook up your emissions equipment; where those lines get their vacuum source from doesn't matter as far as I know.

It may be out of a Galant, and that's why there are those differences. Just a guess, though :)
 
I was just told that it could be a 1.6 liter engine. Is there any way to know, other then checking the stroke? If not, how do I check it?

Can anyone confirm that I can just tee off of the other vacuum sources to hook up emissions crap?
 
Not being intimately familiar with the 1.6L engine, I can't think of any key external differences. If you can find the engine code (no idea where it would be) call your local dealer and they should be able to tell you :)
 
Also, I just saw you were going to do a compression test, for your own good don't try that without the engine securely bolted in to something... like the car ;)

What I suggest is oing a leak down test, although a leak down tester is considerably more difficult to get your hands on, plus you need access to 100psi air. It will tell you 10 times more than any compression test ever could, i.e. exactly where the air is leaking from.
 
Well the place I bought it from said they leak down test them to 5% or no more than 5% or something like that. I guess I'll have to take thier work for it until I get it in my car... assuming it is infact a 2.0.

I think the fact that it is out of an auto is a good thing though... to an extent. Sure a smaller turbo and more conservative cams sucks, but most auto cars are beaten on as bad as manuals, wouldn't ya'll agree? I would say it is a decent trade off.
 
Interesting you say that. It is a flywheel. I didn't even realize. It also came with the pressure plate and clutch. Now I'm confused. WHY IS THERE A 13G SLAPPED ON THIS SON'bi***?

I'm guessing a turbo engine out of a 5 speed using an atx ecu and a 1g non-turbo throtlle body!:)

You certianly ahve an odd mutt of an engine there. It may very well be origianlly an N/A engine that had a turbo slapped on it and an AMG plug cover (wouldn't be the first time someone has misbadged their car/engine). Maybe they just grabbed an ECU off the shelf and threw it in a box and it wasn't originally paired with that engine?
 
when I got the engine, the AMG cover wasn't screwed in, and The guy gave me the ECU before he drove off, I didn't even know he had it. If it is/was originally a NA enigne, somene went through a lot of work to make it a turbo, because all the proper OEM water and oil lines, which means they would have had to get a new oil pan, thermostat housing ( i think), umungst other things like the intake manifold. But to be sure, how can I check to make sure the engine is a turbo?
