My engine build...finally

So I finally got the phone call today from Luke, the guy who did the machine work on my engine. Told me everything was good to go!

He said everything measured PERFECT and that using the MBCAD kit and the ARP main studs, it will be way beyond a "new motor" and I shouldn't ever have any major problems (such as pre-mature thrust bearing failure :hellyeah:). He had also told me that this was one of the tightest motors he's ever machined.

So I'm getting ready to pick it up soon. I'll have my hands full for the rest of the night. Just wanted to start this thread and keep everyone informed about my build. I'll get some pics and keep this thread updated. Hopefully I'll have her back on the road by next week sometime!

Line Hone with a torque plate using ARP mains and MBCAD

Well I was up until 4a.m this morning working on the motor. Everything is going together pretty smooth. I didn't get as many pics as I hoped to get because my camera is horrible and it's kind of hard to take pics with greasy hands, but I managed to get a couple that I'll post later.

The block is fully assembled. All except for the oil pump and the timing belt side of the motor. The head is also fully assembled and torqued down to the block with new ARP head studs with their Moly Lube torqued to 80ft lbs. (Even went as far as to borrowing my friends electronic Snap-On Torque Wrench for the most accurate reading possible).

I wrote down some OEM part #'s for everyone incase anyone ever needs any of these parts from the dealer. All of these parts are new on my engine, but some of the plastic wrappers I lost so I don't have every part #.

Head Gasket - MD183808

Dipstick - MD312865
Oil Pickup Tube - MD327170 (Mitsu revised this part, instead of having an open screen at the bottom of the tube, the screen is now covered by a metal cone to prevent crushing of the screen).

(Yes, I went so far as to get new stickers for underneath the hood. I was surprised Mitsu could get these).

Some other stuff I can't think of off the top of my head.

Ok ran into a bit of a problem putting the rear BS bearing in to block off the oil hole...
I used the end of the BS to drive it in, but while driving it in the bearing started to split at the clinch. But it still drove completely in the hole, though it doesn't look pretty. You can see the marks all over the bearing from the front. Looking at the bearing now, the clinch sealed back up and the bearing looks "full" again. The oil hole is about 120 degrees away from the block oil hole, I didn't get it exactly 180 degrees.

Should I leave the bearing as it is in there? Being that it started to split before fully being seated? I don't see it seperating or blowing out of the hole because it took a few good wacks to seat it in there...
 
Not sure about this, but did you consider doing a BS eliminator?

If he turned the bearing, he is doing the elimination on it. I think you should be ok if it seems sealed up. Even if it does not block it fully, it will not hurt oil pressure that much. I would just keep your eye on your oil pressure for the first few thousand miles. Or you can redo it just to be safe. Its your motor, not mine.

Update:

Got everything fully assembled and dropped in. Made sure every single nut/bolt was torqued to proper spec. Fired her up for the first time the other day, only had 1 problem. I had a bad cam position sensor. Got a brand new one and everything is running EXCELLENT. As of right now I have 425 miles on the fresh motor. Oil pressure is literally perfect, temp is perfect, vacuum at idle is 20hg. Everything is awesome. No leaks of any kind. I have some pics. I'll get them posted sooner or later. This 7-bolt motor seems rock solid and I don't see any problems happening in the near future.
