OK my car has been in my garage for 2 weeks, its had the negative battery end disconnected. (i disconnect it because the battery will run dead after 3 days of sitting) 2 days ago i re connected the battery and toke it down the road, no problems at all felt the same as before, ran fine. i brought it back in the garage disconnected the battery and went to work.

Now, yesterday i was Finlay ganan start driving it some more cuz its been warm, and sunny, so i connect the battery and start to pull out of my garage, but heres the the problem...if i take my foot off the gas the rpms just drop and the engine stalls. WTF

so i start it back up and it idles fine and normal. so i go down the road and as i slow down for a stop sign it does it again...i slowed to about 5 mph and the rpms kept dropping and staled out. weird thing is...all the accessories are still on.

this happend 4 more times (every time i slowed down, almost to a stop) then i went and parked it.

i checked my terminals and there tight. i haven't messed with anything on my engine...

my theory is that the ecu is freaking out because i disconnected the battery two times...maybe it just hasn't got adjusted?

any ideas?

No matter how tight you have the terminals, a bad battery won't get any better. I'd start with a new battery. The fact that it was going dead after sitting for 3 days indicates that it already had issues.

Your theory is correct. The ECU can take some time to relearn after disconnecting the battery.

i agree with both ^^^, the battery is probably crap, and the ecu can take time to relearn. i had a bad battery in my back-up car that would stall out also if the revs dropped below a certain point. new battery and problem gone.

I'd be more inclined to think it is the alternator. Once the car is running, it should be fine electrically anyways, assuming your alt is functioning properly. An alt with a bad diode will also drain a battery. Take it to Autozone and have them check it.

Actually, it does sound like the battery. A battery needs to have X amount of cold cranking amps to start your car and then your car runs off the battery and alternator for a little bit after start. I had a similar problem with my Jeep. It was hard to start and it would die if I didn't keep giving it gas for the first 5 minutes. After that, it ran fine. Are you having trouble starting your car? Do you need to pump the gas while starting and it takes longer to crank over? This is a good indication of a bad battery.

Your problem with your Jeep sounds like an alternator as well, research alternators a bit. Sounds like you just did a band-aid fix. http://misterfixit.com/alterntr.htm

-edit-
I am not saying it WASN'T the battery, I am just saying an alt can cause those same symptoms, and it is definately worth getting it checked, or checking it yourself.

Well, your Battery is def. Crap. The thing is if was the battery just crapping out on you, or your alternator is not charging it. Mine went and it really wasnt a good day for me. Miss fires, bogs, clicks, clack, bangs, blah blah blah. And if your ECU does indeed take time to compensate for missing values...so it will run like crap for a little.

Hope we all helped

i would definatly change the battery and look at the altenator. it does take some time for the ecu to take affect and get back to normal after the battery has been unplugged for a while. try the new battery and start from there.

start simple. take your reading from the back of the alternator. then at the battery. is there as difference? have you tested the alternator? take it to autozone they test for free.

Same thing happened to my car a couple weeks ago, i even had an optima yellow top. I got money on the battery. When i took my car to advanced autoparts and got it checked, alternator fine and battery was shot. I kinda figured though because my greddy turbo timer said voltage was normal while car was on, but when off it was WAY low. Every time i would turn the car off, ecu would reset and couldnt ever relearn enough to drive normally, sounds just like what you got going on there.

I had that problem a couple days ago. So I disconnected the positive and negative and cleaned the inside of them. There seemed to be rust build up. Put them back on. Charged the battery to make sure it wasn't dead. Hooked them both back up and its worked great ever since. Might try that before you spend the money on a new battery.

yap, every one was right. :thumb:

i put in a new battery then i drove the car around for 10 minutes and the staling went away!
i was so happy :D

but my car is running really, really rich. i have a bad o2 sensor, and instead of changing it last night, i try-ed to drive 15 miles home....

I ended up fowling the plugs, the car stranded me in a parking lot 5 minutes from home, for the first time i called a flat bed :), toed it back to work....the guy didn't charge me!!!!
so today some techs are ganna try and fix it up for when i go back to work Monday.
