My custom front speaker rig

My boston SX60's only had 3 holes in the speaker rings, and only 1 maybe 2 of the holes would have been able to hit the plastic well enough to hold it tight. So I had a little fun and built these guys.

Very simple to make, took me some time to figure it all out, but I got it and they fit great.

Started out with a 1/2" thick, 9" wide, 8" tall piece of wood. I curved the one edge to fit in the door, another corner shaved just a bit at an angle and another corner cut just to make sure it all fit solidly and flat against the metal. Then 4 1" screws to hold the wood to the door. I know the speakers look like they have 4 screws to hold it in, but that's just for the "grill", as you can see its not much of a grill, only protects the rubber surround. Don't know if it helps anyone, but I didn't like the adapters. Put dynamat behind it and will eventually dynamat everything.

I did the same thing for mine. CDT CF-61 Components w/ t25 1" silk tweets with 110 RMS going to each side. I've got to admit though I'm still trying to find a way to make our doors sound great. I've dynomatted the whole thing and even sealed up all the holes I could in the frame of the door, leaving only a slit for the door handle mechanism. I'm not yet satisfied, something funky happens if the mid range isn't cranked down a bit; a nasty resonance through the doors.

Your pieces look a little more professional than mine do, that's for sure.

My highs are in the original Infinity locations, I just gutted the speaker and removed the magnet and they sit right in it perfectly and sounds great. Mine are Boston Acoustics SX 60s with a Kenwood excel amp at 70 watts rms powering them. my crossovers are located under my passenger seat where the infinity amp used to be. To get rid of the resonance, I'd suggest maybe dynaliner? or Extremeliner. That might help, its foam, acts as both insulation and for sound. I think like 12 sq ft off of ebay for like 60 bucks.

I actually did it all myself. I love wood working. I'll show you what I'm doing with my sub box and my 2 amps, cap and wiring when I get those done.

No the thin clear one that goes over the whole inside of the door.... Mine didn't come with any. What are the risks of not having them?

My car has it, But it looks like someone else put it in, Not the factory. I don't know the risks, But i want to cut if off. Its in the way of me fixing the window on my drivers side.

I think its like a water seal type deal. Maybe to help with road noise? I'm not sure. Mine is going to come off. I don't like it. Dyanamt will go in it's place. I don't see it being a problem without it, unless water is getting inside your door. Even then, I don't think the plastic would do much, at that point, you'd need the weather strips re done.

What he said. I took it out of my car once and I live on a dirt road... bad mistake... Sunroof open or the cabin vent, dust would fly into the car!

Also vanilla gorilla, your high's aren't supposed to be in the door. A mid Range is supposed to be in kick panel area (or door) and highs go in dash or in Pillars for best sound.

good job! I always wanted to make some adapters and such so I can install better speakers, ive just been lazy though

and to 2nd the clear plastic on the doors, i believe all of our cars should've came with it. if not, someone has been tinkering with your car prior to your ownership..

besides all the benefits people already mentioned, im sure it acts as a sealed enclosure for the speakers back there.

yea im sure this is a component set, i'm sure he has them placed in the proper location. seriously people if you aren't running components, you should.

I put my Infinty tweeters in the stock location too, gutting the speakers is easy
and the result look OEM!!
