hello i have 92 talon tsi i have vacumn mod done with catch can aftermarket intercooer maf conversion my car when it is cold runs like crap when turbo goes to kick in it starts spitting and sputtering but after it reaches normal op temp it runs perfect anyone have any ideas

If your compression, fuel system, and timing are all correct your problem is the ECT (coolant temp. sensor). The ecu checks this first when you start the car, it ajusts fuel when starting based on temp, the colder it is the more fuel it adds. If it is reading wrong then your car will be very hard to start on cold days. It is located in the thermostat housing, to test it unplug the black plastic clip connecting to the thermostat housing and turn the key ON (do not start the car). Connect the negative probe of your DVOM to a good ground on the car, and the positive to one of the plugs in the clip. With key ON you should see approx. 4.5-4.9 volts. You may have to try both of the plugs until you find the one that sees voltage – one sees voltage and the other does not. Then you need to check for resistance. With the engine cold and the sensor unplugged, turn your DVOM to resistance (ohms) and connect the probes to each of the two prongs on the sensor. The prongs on the ECT will form a sort of "T" shape. With engine cold, resistance should read somewhere between 2,200 to 2,700 ohms (if it's a little higher, it is due to extremely cold ambient temperatures. Somewhere close to this range is okay though).

I hope this helps you it took a long time to type.

ok the car is running rich i have checked biss and timing they are ok i also checked the ect voltage is normal(4.9) but the resistance was low it read 1377 ohms the temp was 95 degrees outside and it hadnt been started since 730 this morning test was preformed at 140p.m as far as mods it has an front mount intercooler, b&m fuel pressure regulator, stage two clutchand 3.5 inch exhaust the maf cdonversion i believe is a 2g maf it has a square box on the intake to the turbo with a modified pigtail harness and also has the vacumn mod done to where the only vac lines are the ones going to the fuel regulator and the one going to the wastegate and bov with a t and mbc. the egr and j pipe nipples are all capped off. also there is a catch can with two vac lines running to the pvc valve and the nipple on the side of the valve cover closest to cps. like i said when it warms up it runs great just when it starts it runs like crap

That could mean that you have a gm maf. We'll need pic to see which you have.

when my coolant temp went out it wouldn't start at all. If I forgot to reconnect the coolant temp sensor plug, it wouldn't start at all.

If there is no egr block plate then there could be a leak at the egr valve into the exhaust stream.

Really if you can get a cheap logger, you can see what your hertz count is (airflow). You can see if you have a sensor reading that is clearly off.

Have you run a boost leak test? Do this first, and always first, when you have running issues w/ a turbo car employing a maf.

I'd get a logger if i were you. It sounds like you have a maf metering problem if your boost leak test checks out. I think you have a simple boost leak though. This screws up the maf metering.

ok can do i am pretty sure it is a gm maf any ideas on where to get a logger i also have a safc can i do anything through it

Wait, your profile says that you have a gm maf and and safc. Do you have the translator box? The "maf translator"?

A cheap logger is here: tunerstein. You ahve to have a palm or laptop. Or do what I did. Get a cheap voltage inverter and use your home pc:notgood: . It sucked but it worked. Alsow getting a scan master would be good. But it doesn't record a whole run it just records peak numbersd from the sensors monitored. You can get an lm-1 and a logger setup for about 500 bones. This will give you the ever desired air/fuel ratio monitoring needed for a great tune and also give you **recordable** logging.

Still getting just tunerstein should be just fine for you.

i was wrong sorry i have the 2g maf setup talked to the kid i bought it from tonight sorry i will invest in the datalogger from what ive read sounds like a pretty handy thing to have
