I really cant believe how lucky you are. This is the project that I want to undertake. I am really glad to see that someone out there is posting picture of this build. Make sure you creat a build journal so we can all follow you.

Also I wanted to learn more about canadian import laws. Is it possible to import to Canada, then sell it to a person across borders? Is it even possible to drive the evo III into the US, I mean is it against the law? like I said, this is a project I want to complete, but unfortunately I live in the states.

I have seen people do the mirage conversion, but its beyond my currently ability to properly attach a rear drivetrain.

The tear down looks great so far. Are you going to keep it the stock white color? is that the same shade of white as the galant vr-4 (summit white).

Can you take some picture of the front knuckle? I want to see what design it is. if it is similiar to the 2g knucle or the newer galant type. It will be nice if you can bolt on the evo brembo calipers or the vr4 calipers.

Nice evo3 you have there. You should post some pictures at calgarydsm.com, you might get lucky with some used parts also from there to keep costs down.

As for the import laws, a car must be 15 years old to be eligible for import, and then it has to pass a mechanical which differs from province to province. As far as driving it into the states its completely legal, but i have heard some gripe lately over boarder guards giving a hard time as people have been driving them in, selling them(imports in general), and finding another way back into the country. That is still illegal and can get both parties in trouble. There is ways around the u.s. import laws but nothing I am to familiar with.

As for the car, it's mitsubishi's "Scotia White" and i do intend on keeping it that way. I can get a shot of the knuckles tomorrow, but I can tell you now it isnt just a bolt on swap for e8 or 9 brembo's. The most common way ive seen done is using the whole evo 8 hub set up, along with spacers on the caliper bracket and wheel.. to much hassle for me. And the rear's use a different hand brake set up which has to be modified as well.

lookin good...hope you get through with the build soon!

Just some more food for thought. IM/EM everything i've read is telling me that going to a SMIM will lose bottom end for more top end, is there anything i should look at for better lower end or is the stock e3 efficient enough? Should i get a port and polish done? Same goes for exhaust, would a equal length tubular(dnp) be worth it, or even a FP race mani? Or would a port and polish on the stock e3 mani be good enough? Again, I want all low and mid range power.

Consider getting a Cyclone IM. It came stock on certain Japanese market GVR-4 motors. It has dual runners and significantly increases low end response and torque if set up properly.

A cyclone intake from a VR4 won't work on an Evo head. The Evo has small intake ports in comparison to the VR4 ports.

Havent had much time off work so no pic updates yet. Ordered in the fuel pump, aem 6in1, hks timing belt, block gasket set, balance shaft eliminator kit, main and rod studs. egr blockoff, some colored silicone hose, and a bunch of different bolts, washers, and gaskets. Only things left to get are suspension/bushings, brakes, rad and intercooler.

So turns out my crank is done. The shop just called and said the thrust bearing went and cause damage to the crank. My options are the eagle 4340, manley race series, or a stock evo 8 MR. Any opinions?

Well with most builds I hit a little snag on the road. I was back in ontario for 3 weeks and am now just getting settled back in. Im still looking for a crank, hoping to get the engine finished by the end of this month.

nice build hope to see u at some car meets in central alberta this summer.

all u alberta guys look me up on face book, my profile name is ( turbotim spooled.)

I do lots of work on dsms and other imports.

So if a Canadian were to wait for the 15 year point, then import it to Canada would i (American) be able to buy it from a Canadian? thus save me extra paperwork and time???

Afraid it doesn't work that way. Im not sure exactly how the states rules work, but from what i've read I believe some states allow them to be registered even though they arent 25 years old and some dont.

The one way to get around it i've come upon is to have the Canadian owner drive it into the states, sell it, and find another way back into the country. They've started cracking down on this though in recent years, many people on gtrcanada have had to spend hours at the boarder being interrogated and signing paperwork saying they are not going over to sell the car.
