When I first got my car, I would drive it, and when I mashed on it, I would get a spike to 15 then it would settle to 12. Now it only boosts to 8-9 with no spike. Mind you Injen intake ONLY mod. Now, with it that close to stock, should i have been getting a spike? Because I dont know wether it is running ''correct'' now that it isnt spiking , or was running correctly before spiking to 15 then down to 12. Which sounds right to you?

Question 2: What is the STOCK boost level for the 2g? Is it closer to 8/9 or 12/15?

Anybody anybody??

stock boost level is set to 12 if I remember right and it shouldn't spike. have you performed a boost leak test?

yeah, a boost leak can cause a spike, and a dying turbo will do that, too. It's easy to check the turbo, just remove the turbo inlet pipe and check the wheel for excess freeplay.

Yes I have performed a blt. I was getting a leak from the injector into the head. The rubber ring that seats into the head, all were dry and hard. Got new ones and managed to drop one behind intake somewhere and cant find it but ill be fixing the one injector leak tomoro. I just dont see why I WAS getting a spike, and now I'm not. Ive read several things on what the stock boost level for the car is. From what I have read it could be anywhere between 8-12 pounds. And there is quite the difference between a 8psi pull and a 12 psi pull.

Do you think that changing the air filter on the intake could change this? I put a Spectre filter (one from O'Reilly) on it. And I do not recall wether it was acting up before or not ?

I would highly recommend against anything "performance" you get from any auto parts store aside from K&N filters.

Take off your intake pipe, and check for shaft play. Also, look at the compressor wheel to make sure there is no damage.

Alrighty. I'll try this also. Yeah I might have to try and track down a K&N filter. I don't know wether the one I have is restricing, letting too much air in, or its fine.

Are you reading boost from the stock gage or an aftermarkt gage? If you are
using the stock gage it will not give a true picture of what is going on.
The stock gage works off of a calculation made from the MAF. It only shows
what it thinks the boost is based on via the calculation, not what the actual
boost is. You need a real boost gage if you don't already have one.

Thanks for your suggestion Greg, but I am already running a boost gauge (as listed in profile). I can see the anderstanding behind so. As you can't REALY pull numbers off of stock boost gauge. Your response in appreciated.

Did you check for shaft play yet? Getting a better flowing intake pipe/air filter can actually cause spiking because you'll spool faster. Happened to me.

If the one you have on there is open to the air (no box) and a standard cone style filter it would be HIGHLY unlikely that it's more restrictive. Oh, verifying stock boost should be 12lbs on a 2g.

Sorry I can't help more other than saying maybe your turbo or wastegate is going. Did you check shaft play yet? Have you played with your wastegate to see if it moves freely? When it was spiking 15lbs and dropping to 12 before it wasn't working correctly. That is the kind of behavior my car showed after I changed the intake and intercooler piping to hard pipes.

I appreciate your help so far. Hopefully I will track down what the problem is. Yes, I have checked for shaft play. I cant get any play out of it. I did find the other day that I was having boost leak where the injectors seat into the head. Replaced the fittings in there and I dropped on by accident. So 3 are sealed and one still leaks. I couldnt see that causing that much of a problem? Am i wrong ?

I am 90% sure it can not, but I can't say with 100% confidence. I just can't think of anything else right now, I'll keep it in the back of my mind and try to throw some more options at you. You don't have any pre-turbo exhaust leaks do you? You didn't damage your boost control solenoid/wiring/hoses, and you've got all of the original hoses (3+ recirc hose) hooked up to the new intake pipe?

No, pretty sure there are no preturbo exhaust leaks. As for the boost conrtol solenoid. I don't think I have damaged anything on it. But it is one thing i will check for. Ill be sure to check the hoses to and from it for cracking etc. I actually remover the BCS restrictor today while in diagnosis.

And as far as recirculation, no. I haven't had it recirculated since i put the intake on because my bov didnt have an adapter. But i was getting a spike with it vta and now its not spiking jst boosting to 8 vta

I wasn't so much concerned with recirculation as I was the BCS vacuum hose that connects to the intake manifold.
