Batteries don't just leak acid. Generally they are idiot proof when it comes to acid safety. Are you some how punctering the battery?

I'd bet on the regulator in your alternator. It's most likely overcharging your battery.

I agree, this happened to me 3 or 4 times. It will happen quite often if you get an alternator from Checker, or Autozone, etc. It might be worth it to spend the extra $$$ and get one from a dealer, considering the work involved to replace it.

My Schucks alternator did the same thing to me. Was putting out 19 volts.

Yea with a voltmeter check the voltage across the battery with the car on running at idle. If its 15v or higher, the voltage regulator on the alternator is done. For the battery to be boiling the acid, it must be at 20v+. Just assuming because recently mine went out. The voltage was normal with the car off across the battery, then turn it on then instantly go to 15v+. Rev the engine a lil and it would shoot up to 17 volts. Who knows how high when you're driving the car. Supposedly running like this on a long period will start messing up electrical components in the vehicle. The acid in my battery never leaked, so yours must be pushing quite amount of voltage I assume.

Unfortunately when the voltage regulator is done, you need to replace the entire alternator. Here was my thread on it.

Hope this helps.
