So as i clean up my car to fix all the issues from the previous owner I noticed that at some point the batter had grounded out on the hood. I decided that I was going to move my battery to the trunk of the car. I know this is nothing new but here is how I did my relocation.

I have seen people do this many ways but i have found on the four cars i have done this on that this works good and allows stuff to be moved or unhooked very quickly

What i used for this project:
5/8 grommet with 4 gauge opening
4 gauge 176 strand copper wire
distrabution block
3/8 bolt
some washers and random bolts (im addicted to stainless)

Here is the finished positive side of the battery. Eventually a full wire tuck is being done so this will be moved into the glove box.

I drilled a 5/8 hole thru the firewall near the drain hole for the blower motor and installed the grommet. I then pulled enough of the 4 gauge thru to reach where i mounted the distribution block. From the block I ran a 4 gauge lead to the starter and the Fuse box.

With this now moved down here i have gained about an extra cubic foot of space and have a direct spot to tap into to test for voltage drop or if i put a voltage gauge in.

Watch those wires around that axle. It might seem like something to shrug off, but take it from someone who's experienced it first hand, my wiring harness wrapped around my axle going 80mph and there was nothing sweet about it.

:dsm:

Not the cleanest, but you can use it as a baseline to learn off of. Try getting some zip-ties of Adel clamps to secure the wires or tuck them closer to other wires in the engine bay. Like Gofer said, you don't want those wrapping around the axle.
I used 4awg (like the OP) when I relocated my battery. Looking back I wish I used 2awg or 0/1.

The wires are nowhere near the axle, they are about 3 inches away from it. I have some 00 gauge im going to do the rewire with once i do the wire tuck. I didnt want to hack up the 20 foot piece I have for a quick relocation like this. Once i do the full wire tuck all the fuses will be under the dash as well as the distribution blocks.

Since my heat is dead i was going to delete the coolant lines and remove the heater and blower motor to make the space for them under the dash. I also will use to holes from the coolant hoses for my harness to the engine so there is nothing visible if standing infront of the car.
