Hey guys, I know theres many other threads about buildig a 400hp GST, but not all cars are used for the same thing so each one must be unique.

I have a 1G 1991 GST with a 5spd tranny. I want to make 400hp (Not WHP) but i know im going to have to upgrade a couple of things. As of right now, I have an $1100 budget. I can maybe go a bit higher but dont plan on it.

I seen that the stock block can handde from 500-600hp so 400hp is not near that amount. My car does have 287k miles on it. I was just thinking about machining the block and leave stock pistons and other parts. Is that a bad idea? Should I atleast bore it .20-.30 over and get some 2g pistons? Or is the stock setup ok.

As for the head I was thinking of either machining it, or porting it. What do you guys think? Ofcourse I will replace all the gaskets and seals. But if I do port the head, is it necessary to port the manifolds? Also, I wanted to leave everything stock in the head. Can the camshafts handle the stress? What measurements should I take to make sure the camshafts are still strong?

Maybe later down the line I can upgrade internals, but as of right now i dont think so. I would like to push 400hp on stock internaanls for 6 months or so. Than upgrade camshafts and what not.

Anyways, as of right now I bought the car kinds modded but it seems to be a lot of ebay parts.:banghead: Parts I have right now:

A/R.50 T4
JDM Sport FMIC With 3" Piping
Some BOV
Manual Boost Controller
Some Aftermarket Turbo Manifold
High Flow CAT Than Straight Piped
440cc Injectors

One thing I should mention though is I dont want to run e85. I will just be running 93octane. I want to keep it simple. I want the setup to be for road racing, I think having power through the powerband would be best.

Some of the mods I was thinking are:
255LPH Fuel Pump (RE-Wired)
900-1000cc Injectors
Ajustable FPR
Different FMIC
Not Sure Which BOV (Any Suggestions?)
ARP Head Bolts

Anything im missing? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, can you guys shed some light on why people say that have a 90 degree angle is pathetic. Why is that? How should it be installed than? Or should I just get an internal wastegate?

Also isnt there suppose to be a filter at the end of the turbo tube? All it has is this piece of metal and a piece of plastic on the bottom side. Not sure whats up with that. Can anyone explain that?

If I was going to be tearing down the engine, I'd just put new pistons, rings, etc especially with that kind of mileage. With the increased power and old parts you might be looking at bigger problems down the road.

Looks like you will need something to tune with also such as DSMlink or another kind.

Good luck with the build!

for the head i would just machine the surface and have them look over the head make sure its in good running condition, everything in the head can handle the stress of 400 crank horse power.(also have them ports the hole on the head that oil goes through the head)this you do so your oil pressure wont sky rocket, you need to buy a oem multi layered head gasket from factory

for the block i would resurface the deck then buy some forged pistons .20 over, buy arp hardware, they will put the new bearings in and install the arp hardware,

750cc injectors should be more than enough
walbro 255 fuel pump
dsm link for tunning
arp head studs, arp rod bolts, arp main studs
oem factory head gasket multi layered steel head gasket
factory timming belt new and tensioner new

your front mount is fine
your bov is fine as long as it dosnt leak

all this is a confident setup that you wont have to worry about your engine failing, you dont need to upgrade and camshafts etc... unless you want to later

Did you check all maintenance first?

*AFTER*

That is a must like 3parks said. You will need something to tune it with if your going with bigger injectors. That can be quite pricey if you get DSMlink if your only working with $1100. Maybe you should get a SAFC. I'm not sure if you have one of the simplest mods on there first which would be changing the intake if you still have the stock one.

Another thing you might want to do later if your trying for 400HP is change your clutch.
